Timmy was totally in control tonight. His curve ball was unbelievable.
Timmy also had a double. Doc Wood was 2-3.

This very young team has played some good ball the second half of the season. The only bad game they have had of late is the game against Sun Valley.

Does anybody know who won the Concord/Robinson game?

    Hopewell 5, West Meck 2

Hopewell scores 3 runs in the top of the 7th to break a 2-2 tie.

    Independence 9, Central Cabarrus 1

With the win by Indy, coupled with the Central loss, you have a two-way tie for first in the Meca-8 (Indy, North Meck @ 11-1) and a two-way tie for 3rd also (Central Cabarrus, Hopewell @ 8-4).

    Hopewell plays Indy on Tuesday
Central plays North Meck on Thursday

On an different note, West Meck will replace it's team name beginning next season and no longer be the "Indians". After 53 years, political "correctness" has led to the elimination of the beloved mascot and symbol which will be replaced by the "West Meck Hawks". Team colors will remain the same. They will also replace their student newspaper and yearbook, which had other "Indian" names. Total cost will be about $40,000. East Gaston is struggling with the same issue. If the cost ($40,000) is considered average, the 32 schools in North Carolina that are replacing their images will cost tax-payers $1,280,000.00.

    Kannapolis 3
    10 innings

    UNBELIEVABLE game!!

Kannapolis went up 2-0 on Andrew Mead's 2-out, 2-run single in the first after an error extended the inning, and almost blew it open in the second when the East CF (Klutz, not sure on his first name) made an amazing diving catch in the right-center gap with 2 men on (the first of 2 diving catches he made). East then scored in the second on a hit by Burris, a walk, and an error on a pickoff at first. East tied it in the 6th on an error and a couple of hits with 2 outs. Both starting pitchers showed some serious guts all night long, battling out of tough situations time after time (Mead-K, Cauble-ER). Relief arrived in the 8th, Sherrill for Kannapolis and Cy Young for East. Kannapolis got a 2-out RBI single from Jeremiah Worthington (who had been 0-for) to take the lead 3-2 in the 10th. Sherrill calmly retired the first 2 Mustangs on 2 pitches in the bottom of the 10th. The next batter, Young, bounced a routine grounder that the Wonders booted, bringing up Jacob Cooper, who promptly blasted the second pitch to the MOON for the walk-off win for East.

East now holds second place over the Wonders, who fell to 9-4 in the NPC. Not sure what East is, only that they have 3 losses and have 2 or 3 games left while the Wonders close out the NPC season vs N. Iredell Tuesday.

    What a game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Incredible...how do they arrive at that $40,000 figure?...it must be a great school newspaper and a gold plated yearbook.

Uniform costs (including football team), golf bags, removing the Indian symbols from the gym floor and tomahawks from the concession stand ... when you add up the number of sports playing teams, it really mounts in a hurry.
