2006 High school players drafted from NC:

    Round/NAME/HS/PRO TEAM
4 - Ryan Morris (South Meck) Cleveland Indians.
5 - Chris Archer (Clayton) Cleveland Indians.
11 - Lonnie Chisenhall (West Carteret) Pittsburgh Pirates.
14 - Alex White (D.H. Conley) LA Dodgers.
15 - Sam Brown (Millbrook) Washington Nationals.
16 - TJ Wilson (Southern Durham) Kansas City Royals.
25 - Blaine Howell (A.C. Reynolds) Tampa Bay Devil Rays.
29 - Nick Liles (Scotland County) San Francisco Giants.
32 - BJ Dail (Millbrook) Baltimore Orioles.
34 - Josh Thrailkill (T.C. Roberson) Philadelphia Phillies.
36 - Samson Williams (Laney) Atlanta Braves
38 - Kosh Ashton (J.H. Rose) Atlanta Braves.
48 - Tanner Biagini (D.H. Conley) LA Dodgers.
50 - Kurt Benton (West Stanly) LA Dodgers.

    Which of them will sign?
Which of them will wait and let college enhance their future (IF it can)?
Evidently somebody sees the ability within these players, so this is not to argue that point, but who has the maturity and makeup to excel at the pro game, from an intangibles standpoint?

Let's hear what you have to say!

I would say, unless a player does not have the grades nor wants to continue education, Ryan Morris and Chris Archer are the best bets. I don't know Chris, so I will discuss Ryan.

I think Ryan does have the makeup to play minor league ball, now. I believe he would be comfortable playing with some older guys and I believe he would do fine out on his own...besides, unknown to his Dad, Mom is going to move in with him :D..just kidding Rob.

One of the best things that happened to Ryan was playing for Impact. It prepared him to become teammates with guys he previously didn't know...much like what he would face in a Rookie league.

This is all speculation, but with the bonus money he would receive and his makeup to be able to live on his own, Ryan would have a nice transition.

Again I have to ask this question. How is it possible for a team with a pitching staff with two drafted pitchers go 12-12? Millbrook managed this amazing feat this year behind Sam Brown and BJ Dail.

I don't know this to be the case, but I would hazard a guess and say they had a bad defense, lack of timely hitting and no team chemistry...it's pure speculation on my part. I have no inside information. But those are usually factors in the above description.

    hope

hope some of 'em make it, but seems many don't go to a college program, sign w/ pro's, then play a few yr's in minors, & fade out without a college educ.

Good point...we have discussed this many times and this is a good time to remind all.

Most MLB contracts come with "after baseball" tuition. They have 7 years to use it. The concern for many is that when they do finally "hang up" their cleats, they have other things involved that may prevent them from using it.

TJ Wilson is a kid I never heard much about? Anyone with any information on him? Same for Samson Williams and Kurt Benton.

    TJ Wilson

TJ was the SS at Southern High School for the last 4 years; a starter on the football team 4 years and basketball 4 year. An allround player. Good arm and can HIT(left side) with the best. Not only a player but a GREAT young man. GREAT family and will be very good at whatever he does. Congratulation T.J. Wilson:trophy:

Jeremy Jeffress just signed for 1.8 million right out of high school with the Brewers. He's right over the line in VA. I don't even think he's graduated yet.

Sam and BJ played on a team that was just not very good. Several times I picked up the paper to see that one of them had thrown a 2 or 3 hitter and lost by four or five runs. I dont care how good you are people are going to put the ball in play and you have to make plays behind your pitchers. Both of these guys are class acts. They are great young men. And they are very very talented. I wish them the best. I would be surprised if they both did not attend college , Sam at NCSU and BJ at UNC.
