    Thought maybe we'd have a thread to recognize last year's high school players that are now in college and how they are doing........

    I will start with MATT CRUMP, catcher Wingate: 2-5 with an oppo home run and 3 rbi's against vs. Barton College

    Great thread as most of us will want to follow the freshman since we know them so well. I will report on the Wesleyan doubleheader tomorrow.

    next level

    I would like to mention one kid here that I am very proud of. His name is Cory Saulsbury. He was a teammate of my son's at Northwood high school. Cory was always overshadowed, first by his older brother Dusty (jr. year), then by my son his senior year. He's one of those "can't break a plane of glass" pitchers that relies on movement, change of speed and guts. He was not recruited at all. A righty that doesn't break 90 mph has a hard time getting attention... one that barely breaks 80 isn't even on the radar! But, Cory has something special up his right sleeve... he NEVER lost a varsity game in two years!

    This season Cory is attending Guilford Tech and he made the first year baseball team the school has had. He was still underestimated, until he started pitching in scrimmages last fall. He got outs and ate up innings. This past Sunday against Georgia Perimeter he got his first ever college start. He went 3 innings, allowed 1 run and had 2 K's... and his team won!

    Cory is never going to be a big time prospect in the eyes of major D-I programs or Pro ball, but he's living the dream of playing at the next level! All I can say is "Atta Boy Cory!"

    :auto: Pete made the road trip to the ATL as soon as he heard that Cory was gonna start. I talked to him as he was coming back late that Sunday. He was rightfully proud of his boy!

    Brent Lalas (South Meck) vs. Louisburg in opener 2-2 RBI;
    IP 3, H 1, ER 0, BB 1, K 7 – Not a bad line for a pitcher whose high school career line was 1 appearance, and an ERA of ∞.
