New addition to the Legion team

RHP Jimmy Messer from South Caldwell HS. There are a total of 144 players selected from across the nation to compete for an opportunity to play on Team USA. Most of the players are 08's but several are 07's and there are a few 09's. The games start today at the USA complex in Cary. I went and took a look at the fields yesterday and all I can say is WOW! It is unreal. Good luck to all the boys especially the ones from NC.

I worked a camp for them on Good Friday. They took us on a tour of the complex when camp was over. I have seen many, many nice complexes, but this place made my jaw drop. They have many more things in the works as well. By the time it is all said and done, this could be one of the best things to happen to baseball in North Carolina. We are lucky that they have chosen this state to be "home".

I worked out there this morning. It was HOT out there. I left around 1 so I left before the games got started... there were a TON of scouts in attendance. I am back out there Thursday but plan on catching some action other times as well.

Only place thing that amazes me about the complex other than how beautiful it is... there is no locker room/club house.

The complex will also be home to the Tar Heels next season.

    What a complex

I was there on Saturday all day for the umpires clinic run by Major League Baseball and I was awed by how beautiful the main field is. I think we are going to see the best talent in the USA every year come thru this complex and I am sure Major League baseball will end up giving us fans a big treat when they schedule something there. Who ever was behind bringing this complex to Cary did a marvelous job. The umpires clinic was first class.

BTW -- There are 3 "side fields" that are beautiful with large dugouts, scoreboards, great playing surfaces and lights.

One "Stadium" field that is breathtaking -- 400 to center, 330 down the lines, 10ft fence all the way around. In-Ground dugouts, 2,000 seat capacity with grass area's for spectators. Merchandise shop (USA Baseball gear) is first class as well, bathrooms and concession area.

I think they will still have fall practice at Boshamer. I have heard that the field renovation will now be the last part of the makeover.

I guess the Heels will dress at their Boshamer clubhouse and make the short drive to Cary for games. The locker room was cut out of the budget at the USA Facility, kind of strange... but beautiful place at the least.
