2008 NCHSAA State Sectional Pairings

NW4A

i think that any of the NW4A teams have the opportunity to win...now it seems as though ac and watauga are done...but i dont think that Vance can show ac anything they havent already seen...they cant be faster than freedom or bigger than mcdowell...so if they show up to play it could be a really good game...watauga might have a chance at eb but they will have to play one of their best games...good luck NW4A

 

Last night I took a moment to give my take on the girls bracket, now it's time to talk boys in the 4A West Region...


Sectional #1: This section is loaded with quality teams. 3 of the 4 regional participants in last years playoffs are in this sectional. McDowell's magical run last year was spawned by the fact that we got to play some of the good teams at home. The win against Butler in particular I thought set the wheels turning for that run to the regional final. It will be a lot tougher this year. First we got to get past NW Guilford and then look at the possibility of going to East Meck. Then you got Hopewell in the mix...all three of these teams are good enough to make regionals once again. The one who does survive may have the advantage of being battle-tested along the way.


Sectional #2: Grimsley is the favorite in this sectional. Their only potential trap could be against Freedom in the 2nd round. Casey Rogers (much like his father) is a heck of a coach and will find a way to prepare his team. Freedom has an abundance of athletic guards that they can throw out there, any time you can do that I think its to your advantage. But all that said, at first they gotta get past Garinger in the opening round.


Sectional #3: This sectional is a lot like the girls brackets. There are some good teams out there but I think they all have the potential of getting knocked out. Vance while they are still talented, they have more youth this year than last year. It would be interesting to see how they perform in a tight game. Providence is a team that's kinda flying under the radar somewhat.


Sectional #4: I think it will come down to Page and North Meck. Being that Page would be the home team in a sectional, I'll take them at this point.
