One problem that is obvious in the selections of All Star events is the number of talented players throughout the state has increased tremendously from where it was 6-7 years ago....yet the opportunities remain the same.

5 years ago there were probably 20 players in the Charlotte area that could qualify athletically to play for a region in State Games. Now there are close to 60+ players that could qualify from this area alone---and our region includes many others counties: Rowan, Cabarrus, Gaston, Union and Mecklenburg. It is impossible to make everybody happy.

What I wish whenver we have these discussions is to come up with some solutions or at least ideas to make it better.

    Not to get

political... but some would have us redistribute the wealth by letting everyone play... Real world..

Sometimes you don't make the team... that doesn't make you a bad player... you just didn't fit the structure of that team.. Coaches Decision.

Later in life sometimes you won't get the job.. Better learn to deal with disappointment now.. Bosses Decision..

To all that made the team Congratulations... To all that were considered.. Great Job keep working at it..

I have not seen every kid on that list but the ones I have seen are wicked good. And I've read enough about the others that say they are all very deserving. That wasn't my point. A poster named 'easterncbaseball' (who I do not know) asked about McBride. I agreed with him and supported my opinion with facts on Nick's performance (as Braves has asked us to do, support our opinion).

I watched Nick all year and it was a ton of fun. It was fun to see his hard work in the off-season pay off for him. He was a 90 plus strike throwing machine. He had unbelievable composure. His off-speed pitches improved. It was cool to watch. My son realized he had the privledge of catching a guy that could be in the Show one day.

But there is something I know about Nick that not everyone here knows. My son caught Nick all year. Nick treated my son like a million dollars. he never acted like a big time recruit. He never let the 15 pro scouts that showed up at ever game get to his head. He never acted like he was special, instead he was the opposite. After every game the first thing he always did was go straight to my son and thank him for his effort. He would apologize when he would bounce a 90 plus fastball. He was always quick to thank others and by doing this my son wanted to run through a brick wall for him. He never complained about the stitching marks on his arms because he appreciated the fact that Nick appreciated his effort. Nick made my son better by motivating him. There are lots of good players out there but not everyone makes the players around him better. Nick does. We can talk about all the physical stuff Nick does but it's his character that will make him go far in life. My son will never forget the fun he had with Nick this year.

Nice feedback. It gave us insight to a young man that most of us didn't know. Many times we hear about a kid's accomplishments, but not about the kid's character---this was refreshing

    You will not find

better people than the McBrides. Period! Both of those boys are super talented but they are even better young men.

My post was not directed at any one individual. If it was I would not have posted it I would have sent a private message to one person.

Congrats to all the young men who made the team! Now, go get them SC boys and show'em how we do it in the REAL Carolina... am real tempted to make the trip just for the day... 6+ roundtrip hours of driving for 2+ hours of quality baseball... yeah, it's worth it!

    North Carolina loses game 1

After taking a 3-1 lead on the strength of an Eric Brady run scoring triple the NC bullpen allowed 5 runs and then the rains came and the game was called in the 6th inning. SC 8 NC 3

Chris Munnelly tossed 3 excellent innings and Tyler Joyner came in to stop the hot SC bats in the 6th inning.

Tanner Merritt took the loss for NC.

Game two starts at 2 pm today. They might play a 9 inning game due to the first game being stopped early.

UPDATE: first game was completed today and final was still SC 8-3

Game Two underway and in the second inning NC leads 5-2.....In the second for NC: Zupzic singled, Fish singled, Goodwin and Frank with sac flys....after 4 innings it is 8-2.....Stetson singled in Bass, Wooten singled in a Frank and a run scored on a balk. Ethan Ogburn pitched 3 innings and now Zack Bernard is in the game. Moving to the 7th NC leading 9-2. FINAL
