Guys, I have sent out notices to coaches and ADs that nominations for the 2010 team are due by noon Wednesday.

I know a lot of you have thoughts and would love to see your teams or players you feel should make it. Please keep the discussion on this thread and please do not send me PMs about it.

Please do alert your coaches/ADs that I need nominations back from them, from school email addresses only (others will be ignored).

(NOTE: The team will have three OF, one catcher, one pitcher, one utility and four INF).

Here is a copy of the notice sent:

    ----------------------------------------------------

Dear coach, this is your information request for the 2010 All-Observer baseball and softball teams.

We will name a 10-player All-Observer team in each sport then name a first and second team (10 players) for Mecklenburg County (All-Mecklenburg) and areas we cover outside Mecklenburg (All-Region).

PLAYERS MUST BE NOMINATED TO MAKE THE TEAM.

I'm asking that coaches nominate players on their team by 12 p.m. Wednesday, June 2. We plan to run the teams the second week of June.

    Please nominate in this fashion

JIM JONES, JONES HIGH, 6-3, SS, SR: Jones hit .595 with 27 HR and 99 RBIs. He was conference player of the year and made all-state. He had a .957 field average and made one error all season.

Please be realistic with your nominations. Do not nominate five players unless you have five deserving nominees. Often, I get forms back with unrealistic expectations.

If you have any ideas on naming your own All Observer team or one of the regional teams, please list those for me. I'd love to see them as well as your choice for coach and player of the year.

Preston Troutman--.367, 13 2b, 5 3b, 20 rbi, 38 runs; rocket armed shortstop who also was 1-0 on the mound where he hits high 80's. App St. signee.

Thomas Allen--8-1, 1.69era. 68k's in 54 IP; No hitter against Carson. Has not pitched in state playoffs due to arm injury, but will be ready for championship series next weekend. UNC-Pembroke signee.\

Langston, again thank you for coming on TBR and answering questions like you did about newspaper coverage, literally drawing fire from everyone who posted, because (we admit) we're in different fields of work and maybe even somewhat "ignorant" about the newspaper business, yes its true. In the past, I have seen some celebrites post on here with the rest of us average everyday Joes, and some just came across like horses a$$es,,, but you my friend answered every single question with class and professionalism. On subjects that we had no clue, you not only gave your answers, but you gave your reasons and sometimes you drew us a picture, which enabled us to see things like we had never considered. You my friend got my respect for how you handled yourself, and I'll be the first to come get your back if you ever need it. Btw, if it comes to that, those 2 hotdogs we talked about, would be nice... :shiny:

As for player nominations, agree completely with travisunc, except to say I will narrow my list down to 2 names, just because IMO these 2 stood that much further ahead of the rest in Rowan County.

Pitcher of Year- East Rowan Thomas Allen

Player of Year- South Rowan Maverick Miles

During the regular season when Thomas Allen pitched, he shut people out. I saw him pitch against the best teams about 3 different times, and seriously he pitched into late innings each time, and in 3 games only give up A TOTAL OF 2 hits and ZERO runs. Allen just put up zeros, they faced red-hot Carson who was in 2nd place at the time, and he no-hit them. Its just amazing to see what East Rowan has done during the playoffs ALL WITHOUT Allen because he was injured. Word is, he's back available for next week's championship.

And then Maverick Miles, when he came up to bat, he either hit the ball hard or you walked him. During one reg season game, Salisbury was leading South Rowan 7-3 in late innings when SR's Miles came up with bases loaded,,,,, (wanna talk about respect),,, the Salisbury coach intentionally walked Miles walking in a run and cutting his own lead to 7-4, but would later say "he'd rather give up 1 run in that situation than 4". Miles was known to hit the ball a long ways sometimes, he hit for average, and he has speed. Btw he will be drafted later this month.

Again thanks. Hopefully the coaches will respond to your request.

Great season for Zac. He is one of my favorite players to watch play and is a super young man. Zac is one super player that VT stole from the state of North Carolina.
