Wow, Auburn furthest road trip. Doesn't look like they will be missing much class.

FYI - App got a huge recruit that hasn't been reported. Daniel Kassouf (North Davidson 07 grad) transferred from Belmont Abbey and will have to sit out this year.

Kassouf anchored Abbey's offense this year, helping the team finish 3rd at the World Series. His stats were fat: 29 bombs (national D2 leader) with 90 rbi's and .370. His slugging % was .803!

I'm telling you, this kid has only scratched the surface of his potential. Coach Pollard got a good one who will be heard from again.

I was there a few weekends ago and noticed this when they were showing me around their new locker room. That facility they have rivals any around and the recruiting class that they brought in has to be one of the best in NC. With the combination of incoming freshmen, JUCO transfers and Kassouf, these guys are going to be really good in the coming years.

Kassouf was one of the most impressive hitters I saw all year...at any level. He's a hitting machine.

Quite frankly, I should have seen this coming and jumped on Daniel immediately...although I know he will continue to pick up where he left off. I just don't like to see a kid having to sit out a year.

I couldn't agree more. I understand the NCAA's thinking (discouraging transfers and promoting degrees by maintaining continuity at one school). But it's hard to imagine Daniel sitting next year.

Just want to add: Daniel did not leave Abbey because of their incoming Coach Brickman. I'll leave it to him to explain the complicated reasons, but Daniel would want you to know: he loved Belmont Abbey (as did my son).

Braves, I of course know you're aware of Daniel's story. I just wanted others to know that Coach Brickman is a quality guy who has my support. I think he was a great hire for Abbey. And I can speak for Daniel in saying he'll be rooting for the "A" teams: Appy and Abbey!

    App practice

I was fortunate to watch an App State practice last Friday. Pitching and defense were absolutely outstanding, but I was very surprised how much team speed they have. They looked good at the plate and several guys hit bombs even with a pretty good cross wind. I know it's way too early for predictions, but it should be fun times next spring and I personally cannot wait until the 2010 season.
