I really hate it for Langston that only 3 of 4 Charlotte Conference schools made regionals this year in 4A girls. 5 years ago he would have been happy if 1 or 2 teams to make regionals. In the end, the teams that were supposed to win (Butler and East Meck) did win.

Isn't the whole idea when on the floor is to adjust to what the refs call? Some teams (and coaches) do a better job of adjusting than others.

I am not sure Butler was supposed to win. Dudley was ranked, the higher seed and playing at home. They were very good and had a chance to win. Butler was fortunate.

Attached is an article from the Greensboro newspaper about the Butler / Dudley game.

East Meck is just down right good. They were ranked and playing with a healthy lineup again.

I can't speak for Langston but he thinks 27 free throws to zero is enough of a story line to mention it in the paper on two different days. I agree with him in the fact that it is and should be a story line when summarizing the McDowell / Hopewell game. Zero free throws - how often has that happened in an overtime girls basketball game - ever? When has McDowell played a game where one team did not shoot one free throw? I would be willing to bet it has been years since one team in an overtime game shot zero free throws.

I did not see the game so I cannot comment on it. I don't know who the officials were or where they were from. I did hear the two centers were both very physical throughout the game.

McDowell is a great team and what a great accomplishment with the injuries to two starters. There are not many teams that could lose two starters and win this deep into the playoffs. Just ask East Meck what they looked like missing two starters in the conference tournament. And Mcdowell may continue to win!
