UNC Pembroke and Mt Olive to face off in winners bracket

Mt Olive slipped past #4 seed Columbus State 6-2 when Dan Hayduk hit a grand slam HR in the top of the 10th for the winning margin. The loss sent Columbus State home back to GA.

UNC Pembroke led 3-0 before Catawba battled back and tied it all up in the 7th inning. The Braves scored the winning run when Aaron Parnell scored on an Indian error in the top of the 8th. Braxton Lewis (7-0) got the win in relief of Brian Willis. Keith Whitman's bat stayed hot with a 4-4 game (dbl, run, rbi).

In the winners bracket tomorrow Mt. Olive (seed #1) faces UNC Pembroke (seed #3) at 11:00. The loser plays again at 7:00 p.m. vs Francis Marion in an elimination game.

 

Is that PA announcer Jeff Charles brother?

I have listened to many ECU games on the radio and the PA announcer at Mt. Olive is a dead ringer for The Voice of the Pirates. Someone said he also does the games for the Carolina Mudcats - very good announcer.

 

Tough luck for Knox

I was told it was a freshman pitcher that got him. Tough injury for an exciting player that I was hoping to see while at the regionals. Best wishes for a full recovery.

 

#2 Mt Olive to play #9 Francis Marion for regional championship

On Saturday the table was set for #2 Mt. Olive to square off against #9 Francis Marion for the SE Regional Championship to be played Sunday at 1:00. As Francis Marion already has one loss, if Mt Olive wins the 1:00 game it is over in this double elimination regional.

On Saturday in the winner’s bracket game at 11:00 Mt Olive defeated UNC Pembroke 7-3 after Pembroke had taken a 1-0 lead. The Trojans scored 7 unanswered before Pembroke would score again. With the win Mt Olive advanced to the championship game. Pembroke would leave 11 runners on base. J. J. Williams led the Braves on a 3/3 day (rbi) and Aaron Parnell finished 2/5 (run). LB Brad Isom (10-4).

Mt Olive had three multi-hit players; Joseph Westbrook (2/4, run), Jason Simone (2/4, 3 runs) and Dan Hayduk (2/4, 4 rbi, dbl). WP Pete Levitt (9-4).

In Saturday’s first elimination game Catawba scored two runs in the bottom of the 9th to tie it up ay 7-7. Francis Marion then scored 2 in the top of the 11th to hold on for a 9-7 win.

In the nightcap elimination game #9 Francis Marion scored two runs in the bottom of the 9th for a 5-4 win over #7 UNC Pembroke. Pembroke’s Kenny Mickens (22/3, dbl, 2 rbi, run) followed by E. t. Maoz (2/4, rbi, run). LP Braxton Lewis (7-1). The Patriots had Martin Gordon (3/4, 2 rbi, run), Michael Wilson (2/3, run, triple) and Tyler Boyd (2/4). WP Jarrett hooks (6-1).

 

#2 Mt Olive advances to NCAA D2 Championship in Cary




In the first game of the day Francis Marion defeated Mt Olive 9-7 to force an elimination championship game later in the day as both teams now have a loss.

In the finale Mt Olive held off Francis Marion 2-1 to win the 2011 D2 Southeast Regional and advances to the 2011 D2 Championship Series to be held at the USA Baseball Complex in Cary, NC, May 28th to June 4th.
