Below is a link to the 2011 PBC Tournament (double elimination) which starts May 8th in Cloumbus, GA. Five of the eight teams are the top 21 ranked D2 schools in the country.

In the top bracket you have #9 Francis Marion, #10 UNC Pembroke and #15 Georgia College, along with Augusta State.

In the bottom bracket you have #12 Columbus State, #21 Armstrong Atlantic, Lander and North Georgia.

Should be an exiciting 5 days watching nationally ranked teams battle on the field.

There is a link at the PBC home page to watch on live video or live stats.

    These are the brackets --

    Great Comeback!

Gutsy win for UNCP. Avoiding the loser's bracket was huge. Proud of the fact they didn't let their lousy draw in the tournament affect their mental state. Baseball at 9:00 a.m. is always an adjustment, so it's a great sign that they could battle through adversity and get the W.

Game #2 1st shocker of the tournament Augusta State vs #9 Francis Marion

In the first upset of the tournament, #9 Francis Marion (overall #1 tournament seed) fell behind 11-1 only to fight back with eights runs to eventually fall 11-9 to West #4 seed Augusta State (22-28). I am sure the Patriots four errors did not help their cause.

The Jaguars were led by Tristan Toorie (4/5, 2 rbi, dbl), Jake Sutton (3/6, rbi, run), Jeff Rice (2/4, 4 rbi, 2 runs, HR) and Kevin Dodson (2/5, 2 rbi).

Chris Honeycutt led the Francis Marion attack with a 3/3 day (2 rbi, 2 runs, dbl) and Buddy Sosnoski was 3/5 (rbi, triple).

WP was Scott Shipman while Dan Sandifer was the LP.

Next up for Augusta State in the winners bracket is #10 UNCP Monday at 12:30 while #9 Francis Marion faces #15 Georgia College in an elimination game Monday at 9:00 a.m.

Upset #2 in Lander vs #12 Columbus State

Sorry about the delay but I had to take care of some Mother’s Day tasks which I performed in a loving way. I love you dear but it is the PBC Tournament - I knew she would understand.

The #12 Columbus State Cougars (32-16) fell to the East #4 seed, the Lander Bearcats (29-22) with final score of 3-2. In pretty much a pitcher’s duel, Lander’s Darren Tew got the win with CG, 8K and -0- BB performance. Thompson Campbell took the loss for the Cougars.

The Bearcats were led by Erik Lunde with a 2/4 day and a run scored. Jeff May’s (1/4) 2 run HR tied the score in the 7th.

Columbus State’s Bruce Allen was 1 for 2 with his 2 run HR.

Lander’s next game is Monday at 7:30 p.m. vs the winner of the last game of opening day between #21 Armstrong Atlantic and North Georgia.

#12 Columbus State faces off against the loser in tonight’s nightcap at 4:00 p.m. tomorrow.

    Former Garner High School's

Sr LHP Darin Tew threw a gem today for the Bearcats. He pitched a complete game giving up only 5 hits , 1 BB and 9 K's. I am so proud of Darin he is such a fine young man. A memory today that he can take with him the rest of his life. Go Trojan's!!! - And Bearcats!!!

    Raleigh area baseball players

Always glad to hear that a local baseball player is doing well at the next level. Pretty impressive outing to say the least. Good job Darin. I hope your parents were able to watch you today.
