Owls General Manager Hugh McBride announced today that CVCC Head Coach Frank Pait has accepted the position of Head Coach for your Statesville Owls. Coach Pait is entering his second season at the helm of the Buccaneer baseball team and 18th overall at the collegiate ranks. In 2010, Pait led a first year squad to a 31-20 record and a birth in the Region 10 Regional Tournament in Martinsville, VA. During their inaugural campaign, CVCC was also ranked as high as 14th in the NJCAA DII national poll.
Pait came to CVCC after an eleven year stint as the head baseball coach of Lenoir Rhyne University. As the all time winningest coach in program history, Pait compiled a 291-239-1 (.549) record as Bear mentor to go along with one South Atlantic Conference Regular Season Title (2001), two Food Lion SAC Tournament Championships (2000 and 2001) and one berth in the NCAA Division II playoffs (2001). Pait also earned 2001 SAC Coach-Of-The-Year honors after the team completed the year with a 33-18 mark. Prior to his time in Hickory, Pait spent three seasons as the assistant coach at Wingate University.
During his playing career at Wingate, Pait was named an NAIA First Team All-American and Conference Player of the Year as a senior. Coach Pait earned his B.S. in Human Services from Wingate University ('85) and a M.A. in Counseling from Lenoir Rhyne ('90).
Coach Pait resides in Hickory with his wife (Sheila) and two sons Tyler (15) and Baylor (11).
Assisting Coach Pait as the Owls Bench Coach this season will be Coach Kelly Haynes. Coach Haynes, a 1996 graduate of Lenoir-Rhyne College in Hickory, North Carolina, is entering his first season as an assistant coach for the CVCC Baseball team.
Haynes coached the 2010 season at Division I Hofstra University in Hempstead, NY. While at Hofstra, two of his players were named All-CAA, Hofstra set a school record for fielding percentage, and the Pride accumulated its most wins in over a decade.
Haynes coached at his alma mater for eight seasons (1997-03, 2007). During his tenure, he served as a recruiting coordinator, infield coach, and assisted with hitters. Haynes helped the school win conference tournament championships in 2000 and 2001. He also was part of a staff that led Lenoir-Rhyne to school records for wins in four different seasons, including the current mark of 35 wins in 2007.

Lenoir-Rhyne appeared in the NCAA Division II South Regional in 2001, and also finished in the Collegiate Baseball Top 25 that season. Haynes coached 22 all-conference performers, five All-South Region selections and two conference rookies of the year during his time with the Bears

Haynes is married to his wife, Angie, and the couple have a daughter, Maddie (7). They currently reside in Hickory.

Great job landing Frank Pait. One of my all time favorite people ever! Coach Pait is knowledgeable, personable and a perfect fit for a summer college team.

..and his family is top notch. I imagine his boys will be part time coaches, too!

I wish I could express how good it is to get Frank into the league. He just made the league even better.

Great things are happening to the SCBL...and I predict its future will be even better. With the rules they have set up for players and pitchers (not burning them out) and the collateral positive experience the Statesville Owls have brought to the league, it's amazing how much the talent has improved in a very short time....and now having Coach Pait involved helps add a stamp of approval to an organization and league to all the college coaches in our region.

Here's the biggest thing I've noticed. It used to be the GM was having to call coaches and "asking" who the players are that are available. Now, coaches are calling them and "pleading" that the team would consider their players.

Great job, Hugh!...and to the partners of Statesville.

Of course, the Copperheads are stockpiling and getting ready for the rivalry. Coach Shoe knows people
