Things just got a little more interesting in the Tri-9.

Holly Springs clinches Tri-9 Championship/Top Seed with Athens loss @ Fuquay.

Fuquay over Athens, didn't get a final score report though

Middle Creek and Apex are now tied for 5th place at 6-8. Green Hope clinched a playoff spot by beating Apex on the road. Middle Creek won its 9th in a row at Panther Creek.

    Play-off game?

If Middle Creek Wins out, they will be 8-8. If Apex wins out thry will be 8-8. If Lee County Wins out they will be 8-8. So there is a possibility for a playoff game??? However Middle Creek and Apex have to play each other so both of those teams can not finsih 8-8, So a possible playoff game between Middle Creek/Apex vs. Lee County as long as Lee County can win out and Apex or Middle Creek Win out. Tri-9 Conference always is a close a tough race to the State Playoffs.

Holly Springs, Athens, Fuquay and Green Hope have secured playoff berths.

With Apex and Middle Creek slated to play, it will have to be either or. Cannot count out Lee county, however, they have a busy week as they have 4 games this week (one being a continuation with Athens to break a previous Tie..so game could go one inning or MORE). Athens, Fuquay and Green Hope, while are 2nd, 3rd and 4th, respectively, can also change seedings...it will be down to the wire as to who ends up placing where. I believe last year, the Tri9 earned the wild card slot, placing 6 teams in the playoffs......this could happen again. It should be another great week of baseball!!!

Just got word that Athens Drive beat Lee County today in 12 innings, 4-3.

    http://blogs.newsobserver.com/swakesports/tri-nine-baseball-scenarios

Basically, If Apex and Middle Creek both win on Tuesday then the winner of Thursdays match-up between Apex/MC will advance to the 4A State Playoffs as the Tri-9's #5.

Apex is at Athens tomorrow and Middle Creek hosts Fuquay.

Lee County still has a shot with 2 games left, Panther Creek and Fuquay.

So this sets up a big match up Thursday between Middle Creek and Apex for the final spot from the Tri-9.

Anyone have an idea if the Loser would still get in via the wild card spot?

I doubt a wild card will come from this conference there is a possibility that there could be a tie for 6th place and I'm sure the nchssa doesn't want to stir controversy. If there isn't a tie for 6th then possibly.

Interesting thought but I would have to think a then 13-11 Middle Creek would have a good shot at the wildcard compared to losing records at Apex and Lee County.

IF Middle Creek loses to Apex and IF Lee County beats Fuquay, then there would be three teams at 7-9. Apex would have swept Middle Creek and split with Lee County which would create a 1 game playoff between Apex and Lee County for the 5th spot. Middle Creek would then be 7-9 and 13-11 overall, also winning 10 of its last 11. Pretty impressive team that would finish in a tie for 6th place with loser of the 1 game playoff team.

IF Middle Creek beats Apex and IF Lee County beats Fuquay, then Apex would be eliminated and doubt they would have a wildcard chance at 6-10, 8-13. This would set up a 1 game playoff between MC and LC on Monday the 9th. The winner would advance to the playoffs as the #5 team. If MC was to lose, they would against finish 7-9 and 13-11 (13-12 if include playoff loss). Probably still worthy of a wildcard.

IF Middle Creek beats Apex and IF Fuquay beats Lee County, then Middle Creek finished 8-8 while Lee/Apex finish with atleast 9 losses. Middle Creek would advance to playoffs as #5. I don't see a 6th place Lee County or Apex team advancing to playoffs with losing records overall.

IF Middle Creek loses to Apex and IF Fuquay beats Lee County, then Apex and Middle Creel would be tied at 7-9 but Apex would have swept Middle Creek. Middle Creek would probably advance to playoffs as a wildcard once again with a 13-11 record. Lee County would be 6-10 and 8-15 overall.

All this will be settled tomorrow evening.

I'm not positive, but since the Tri 9 conference got the wildcard last year, I was under the belief that they couldn't receive two years in a row.
