2012 PBC Conference May 9th to May 13th

The 2012 PBC Tournament gets underway 5/9/12 in Columbus, GA. Of the eight teams that qualified, five are ranked in the top 30 of the latest Collegiate Baseball Newspaper rankings. Double elimination tournament.

Day 1 -

Game 1 - has West Division #2 seed Montevallo against East #3 (nationally ranked #13) USC Aiken.

Game #2 - has East #1/ranked #11 Armstrong Atlantic vs West #4 North Georgia.

Game #3 - West #1/ranked #28 North GA vs East #4/ranked #30 Lander.

Game #4 – East #2/ranked #6 Francis Marion vs West #3 Columbus State.

 

Upsets prevail in day one

#13 ranked USC Aiken fell to west seed #2 Montevallo 6-5 in 10 innings.

#11 ranked Armstrong Atlantic shut out west seed #4 North Georgia 4-0.

#30 ranked Lander blanked #28/west seed #1 Georgia College 5-0.

In the nightcap #6 ranked Francis Marion fell to west seed #3 Columbus State.

North Georgia Saints first team eliminated

USC Aiken defeated North Georgia today 11-2, sending the Saints home.

Next up for USCA in the elimination bracket is the loser between Montevallo vs. Armstrong Atlantic (currently being played in the winners btacket today). Game time is an early 9:00 a.m. tomorrow.

 

#11 Armstrong Atlantic moves to semi's

The Pirates of Armstrong Atlantic defeated the Montevallo Falcons 5-3 today.

Armstrong takes a day off and returns to the field Friday at 7:30 p.m. vs an unknown team at this time.

The Falcons now drop into the elimination bracket and now plays #13 ranked USC Aiken tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m.

 

Did Francis Marion send a message?

Just saw that the Patriots; preseason #1 in the country, fell behind in the 1st inning to Georgia College 2-0, then scored 12 unanswered runs to win in a rout 12-2. This eliminates the #1 west seed Cougars while Francis Marion came out of the east as the #2 seed.

Francis Marion steps back on the field tomorrow at 12:30 in another elimination game to face the loser of the winner bracket game between Lander and Columbus State (tonight at 7:30).

 

All four East division teams advance after two days

Nationally ranked #30 Lander came from a 5-3 deficit after four innings to defeat the Columbus State Cougars 6-5. The Bearcats next play (4:00 Friday) the winner of the elimination game between #13 USC Aiken and Montevallo being played today at 9:00 a.m.

 

Friday's elimination games

In early elimination games today #13 USC Aiken (East #3 seed) plays Montevallo (West #2 seed) at 9:00 a.m. Then at 12:30 #6 Francis Marion (East #2 seed) plays Columbus State (West #2 seed).

Then in the winners bracket later today:

#11 Armstrong Atlantic (East #1 seed) plays the winner of Francis Marion/Columbus State at 7:30.

#30 Lander (East #4 seed) plays the winner of #13 USC Aiken/Montevallo at 4:00.

 

USC Aiken moves to Final 4

#13 USC Aiken trailed 2-0 after four innings and ended up with a 7-5 win over the Falcons of Montevallo, eliminating the Falcons. The Pacers top five batters had 9 of the teams 11 hits.

Next up for USCA is Lander (#30) at 4:00 this afternoon. USCA must win or they go home.

 

Final four set - all East Division teams!

#6 ranked Francis Marion moved into the Final Four, coming out of the loser's bracket with a 4-1 win over the Cougars today.

The Final four is now set and all four teams are from the East Division. Last year the East also won the tournament championship when UNC Pembroke won it all.

#13 USC Aiken faces #30 Lander at 4:00 today. Tonight at 7:30 #6 Francis Marion faces #11 Armstrong Atlantic.

Both Armstrong and Lander are undeafted so if they win their games tonight they will meet in the championship Saturday at 1:00. If either loses today/Friday there will be games on Saturday and the single championship game will be played Sunday at 1:00.

 

Elimination games set in semi-finals

Teams with one loss already won tonight to force elimination games tomorrow against the same opponent.

In the 4:30 game today one loss #13 USC Aiken beat #30 Lander 9-3. These two teams meet again tomorrow at 7:00 with the winner advancing to the single championship game.

In the game just completed #6 and one loss Francis Marion held on to defeat #11 Armstrong Atlantic 9-7 after they had built a 7-1 lead after three innings. These teams play each other tomorrow at 3:00 with the winner playing for the tournament championship.

The championship game is set for Sunday at 1:00 p.m. It will be the fifth game for each team since Wednesday - who will have any pitching left?
