While this is not how the league coaches select their All-Conference players (that will be released after the playoffs), here are mine. The player must have logged at least half their league innings at a position to be considered for that position in my selections and you are more than welcome to supply other opinions.

Consideration was given a player that also had significant contributions on the mound as well as his field position. You can use the DH spot freely.

Go ahead and put these in the book, no one and I repeat no one, else will have the first hand knowledge about SW4A as Mincimi. As always, great job.

    Always enjoy these

    Other conferences??

I agree mincmi's picks are on target.

Is there anyone that can do a similar selection list for SPC, IMECK and others? I could take a shot at SPC but I seem to to have a target on my back for TBR long timers.

Of course M knows SW4A, but I think he's made a glaring mistake not considering Andrew MacLatchie as 1st Team Catcher.

    Consider this:

    1. AMack has played the last 10 games with either a broken bone in his catching hand or some sort of damage.
    2. He should have been in the hospital for the AK game... not going to provide details, but 99% of the kids and adults I know could not have played.
    3. He leads the league in HRs and is by far the team leader for PHS.
    4. The kid calls a great game, has a cannon for an arm and blocks most everything. AK game was an exception.
    5. Don't know the stats, but seen many games and he seems to always come thru when they need him.
    6. Heard scouts including PG say he's a potential later round draft pick.
    7. An all A student with a scholarship to Furman.
    8. PHS is the target of every team, it’s their world series when they play P, and so AMack and his teammates see the best of everyone.
    9. PHS was ranked #8 in the country and has a lot of pressure on these boys, AMack is the one that keeps very one upbeat, positive and having fun and that's what this is all about. Not bad for a HS kid.
Bottom line, this kid has it all and should not be overlooked.

BTW, the other catchers are good, nothing against them. :fan_wave2:

    Really good points

AM is legit. 2 for 2 (w/1BB) vs EM with a long HR over the trees. Another HR vs. AK. Thats 5HR's for season? Leadership behind plate. (Looked like he tweaked the thumb at SMeck game if I remember correctly?) Performance not affected. Gutsy.

Head-to-head...1 Hit (HR), 3RBI's, 0 errors vs. AK last game. AK catcher went 0 for 3, 2K's, and 1 error. Versus Weddington, AM went 1 for 3. While AK's went 0 for 3. Mincmi's stats, btw. Stats aren't everything. (no stats for pop-time, blocking and framing). Lots of catcher talent in Meck and Union Co. AM is special. (I read what to look for in a my "dummy's" book) :biggrina:

What does head to head mean? Neither pitched to each other, and because of courtesy runners, neither ran against each other. I would rather use more information that just the results of the two games that the teams played against each other in the evaluation process. Obviously I do not see every one of their games, and what games I do see will influence my perception. I probably saw each of them as much as anyone else did expect for each home team's fans which would only have a couple of games of the opponents to reference.

I saw each player 10 times this season. I have a much larger sample to examine so I knew that the AK catcher, who is Zach Hummel, threw out 8 of 13 base stealers (.615!) far and away tops in the league in the games I covered, so I guess he must have had a pretty good pop time. He fielded at .989 and must have framed and blocked fairly effectively too looking at how dominate his pitching staff was.

Both players did an excellent job for their teams and were important reasons why the two clubs finished where they did. Both deserved recognition for their efforts that lead to the team's success, like all the players that were mentioned in 2012 TBR Honors. By listing Providence catcher Andrew MacLatchie as a DH, I was able to recognize another player that has had an excellent season and that had the numbers to back it up, just his numbers were not home runs. There are others too, that were not listed, example Ryan Ahlum - MP, that had excellent seasons.

Player recognition has been the number one goal of SW4A.com and we were pleased to be able to do so with the TBR Honors.

Best of luck to all the teams this evening in the opening round of the SW4A tournament and to those that make the state playoffs.

    Nice list

Not looking for a "dust up". You saw more games. Keep stats, etc. Nice percentages on throwing out baserunners. What were the other's stats on that? That stat is also dependent on pitchers staying under 1.3 sec, and throwing accuracy, and the MIF's tag. Team game.

Nice list and it was fun, is fun to speculate. No loosers on your list and the rookies were a GREAT addition. Those rookies are special. Your website did a great job this year of keeping people informed.

Saw 3 SM games, 3 AK, 5 Prov games. Even video taped throw downs of AM and LK. (video has a timer). Missed ZH. All 3 catchers are excellent.
Just throwing some support behind the Prov kid. (who doesnt need it) He doesn't just hit well. He hits terrific. A HR against your SW4A co-player of the year and 1st team starting pitcher. "he's a prime time player...baby" (I'm going back to my yellow book now...).

It’s always hard to pick one player over another for post season accolades, but you have to go with facts, not emotion. Most every point you made should have no bearing on this player being selected over another deserving player.
    • #3 is valid, but many discount HRs at Providence HS
    • #4 starts out good, but you can’t ignore performance against your biggest rival
    • The rest are peripheral observations….”I heard someone say”, “keeps the team upbeat”,”played with injuries”. The same generalized comments could likely also be pulled together for the other players, as well.
    • Grades are extremely important, but don’t think they play a role in selecting All Star teams

Great player and his parents should be over the moon with what this kid has done, but you can’t diminish the accomplishments of others with emotional appeals on behalf of you favored player.

Great points, L&S, but I have to go with jumpstart. The MacLatchie's buy their X-mas tree each year from my son. For that reason alone, A-Mac is my pick. Of course, he's not to shabby a player either:icon16:

Seriously, Mincmi may be the only one qualified to give an honest, fair opinion on all the players. My standards are a little more...ah...lenient; starting with how pretty their mom's are.
