This was a great game but the lack of pitching depth came back to get haunt Piedmont.

I want to comment on the NW Cab. players. While walking through the usual handshake line at the end of the game you could tell that the NW players were sincere in their actions. Showed some real class to a parent that had just seen his son play his last baseball game.

Lots of controversy in this game but Southern Alamance escapes to play Clayton

Thanks for the compliment Stumpman. Your guys came out very aggressive (which is how the game should be played) and it forced the Trojans to "step it up a notch or two" to stay in the game early on. Anyhow, it was great to see Danny Herman, Dallas Tarleton, Timmy King (probably the best pitcher in the state, we were lucky he was tired) and all of the other great Piedmont players in action that I've been reading about on TBR. (you wouldn't believe the fans and players that showed up from other NPC/SPC schools to watch the two conference champs go at it; we were sitting with a contingent from Robinson)

---best of luck and hope to see you next year,

    PHS 6 Central Cabarrus 4

Starting Pitchers: Killian (CC) v Hendel (PHS). Central Cabarrus came out w bats ablaze. Killian followed an Auten Double w a Drive over the Leftfield fence to make it 2-0. PHS answered w two runs of their own inthe bottom of the inning. Singles by Dunning, Mailman and Mauney loaded the bases w no outs. Moore plated the first run w a FC grounder, then Scism singled to knot the score 2-2. In the top of the third, Auten drilled One over the Rightfield fence and then the Vikings proceeded to load the bases w one out. Exit Hendel, Enter Mitch Besselievre. Mitch induced the first batter to pop-up to second and struck out the next batter to end the inning without any damage. The Panthers answered w 3 runs of their own in the bottom of the 3rd. After Mailman and Moore reached on singles, Semeniuk's single tied the game. Mitch Besselivere then knocked in 2 runs w a Double to right. That put the score @ 5-3. The Panthers scored another run in the bottom of the sixth on a passed ball. Laboy Doubled in the top of the 7th and scored on an infield throwing error. Besselievre struck out the pinch-hitter for the final out, sending the Panthers to a 3rd Round Matchup with the South Meck Sabres Tuesday Night.

The Win leaves the Panthers 25-4 on the Season.

I don't see your previous post. That was the most bizarre thing tonight when the foul ball busted the light. Looked like a scene out of The Natural. I figured you wouldn't get it resumed, so I left with Providence up 6-3. I guess I was wrong. What happenend?

    Lumberton 1 Ashley 0

Another Lumberton nailbiter but another Lumberton win. Kevin Branch throws a two hitter and Pirates finally reach Ashley lefty Hunter Ford for a run in the seventh on a sac fly. Two hits for Ashley, four for Lumberton.
Next up is Hoggard in Lumberton. Should be a great ballgame. Expect Kyle Musselman for Hoggard against Mac Read for Lumberton. Talk about contasting styles.

DB - We left as well and were stunned when we ran into some Providence families later who told us they had resumed play and won. Home plate was in the dark and I overheard several parents from both sides expressing worry over the safety of their sons during the delay. We left thinking there was no way they would finish that game. And from a strategy standpoint, how could the coach from CC let the thing resume, down 3 with 2 to play??? Heck they were having trouble seeing that side arm of Besselivere with the lights on!!!!!!!!
