I believe the reason the isn't as much excitement is because this year Reynolds has lost a few game and is not ranked high like last year. That said I think they stlill are a good team and could pull out a win tonight but they will have to play a really good game

Sam Runion is not scheduled to pitch tonight. He may relieve if needed. They don't want SC seeing him this early in the season and are saving him for play offs when it will matter more...so I hear....

    South Caldwell - 10
    AC Reynolds - 0

South goes to 11-0 on the year and has now outscored its opposition by 100 runs on the season.

The game was called in the 5th inning after the 10 run mercy rule was implemented. South still had runners on base when the game was called. Madison Bumgarner pitched the shutout going 5 innings giving up 3 hits and striking out 7. He allowed no walks and 1 hit batsman in which the runner was immediately picked off first base.

Madison also smashed a 3 run homer in the bottom of the 3rd inning to break the scoreless tie. After that point the game was basically over. With South having a 3 run lead the players for South completely relaxed and started really hitting the ball well.

Ian Haley started the game for the Rockets and eventually 2 additional pitchers were used. AC Reynolds is definitely a good team and will be dangerous in the playoffs. It sounds like Runion may not be used against South until the playoffs which is probably a good move considering the high odds that someone will have to go through the Spartans to advance deep in the playoffs. I'll say this much .. the Rockets definitely have the look of a ball team. Their players are about as big physically as South.

This was the biggest crowd I've ever seen at South. There were alot of scouts in attendance as well as ball players from many area teams. I expect a great rematch up in Asheville.

Since Runion didn't start tonight, are they gonna start him against McDowell on friday?

BigDan, I'm not sure who will start for sure when AC Reynolds faces McDowell since I follow the Spartans. I would imagine Sam Runion will start since 3 pitchers were used by ACR tonight. I'll give you the names of the pitchers used ... forgive me if I misspell their names. Ian Haley #11 started the game and I believe pitched 3 and a third innings. He was relieved by Kyle Paplow #6 and Paplow was relieved in favor of Will Towerly #17.

    LP - Haley - 3-1/3 IP, 2 K, 6 H, HR, 2 HP, 7 R
    Rel - Paeplow - 1 IP, 3 K, 1 H, 2 BB, 3 R
    Rel - Towery - 1/3 IP, 1 K, 1 H

    AC Reynolds:
    Paeplow - 1-2
    Cummings - 1-2
    Terbeek - 1-2

    South Caldwell:
    Severt - HP - run

    Chavis - 1-3, run
    Coffey - 1-2, 2B, BB, run
Clawson - HP, BB, 2 runs
    LeProvst - run
    Parham - 2-3, RBI, 2 runs
    Sheehan - 2-3, game winning 2B w/2 RBI

Rockets missed some plays that could have made some difference, but it was South's game after the 4th.

Thanks for the comments jccunc1, we are not the team of last year, but we're working hard to pull things together.... Spartan baseball has a program everyone should try and emulate - congrats on last night and we'll see you again in a few weeks...

    Good Game By South

This was a good performance from South against a good Reynolds team. It was one of those snowball effect situations once South got rolling. Make no mistake about it, ACR is a formidable opponent, and they will be pumped and ready when South goes to their place.

I am proud, impressed and amazed by the supporters of the two programs. The 1st game last year, not only this was a heated rivalry, but the posters on here did not seem to like or respect one another.

This year is the complete opposite. Both teams and their supporters praising their competition with their talent and sportsmanship. You guys have come a long way. I couldn't help but notice that.

By the way, how is my buddy, Poovey, doing? I haven't heard much about him this year.

Poovey has been injuried (elbow). From what I have been told wasn't serious and he has been released to play starting this week.
