    One and done

makes for some surprising results every year. You dont have to be the best team just the best team that one night. Your pitcher throws a great game. You make all the routine plays and maybe a couple of highlight plays. When they smoke one it is hit right at someone who makes the play. They make a couple of errors and you dont. The longer you stay in it the more pressure builds on the team that is supposed to win. And before you know it game over.

I have been on both ends of these games over the years. We lost to some teams that we were way better than but not that night. And we beat some teams that were way better than us but not on that night. The fact is you just never know. And thats what makes it so much fun.

Coach is absolutely right,,,,,,, and oh how the little things just get so much bigger, laying that bunt down, if I would've hit that ball 6 inches more to the left or right, that one error, or that one inning you left runners stranded. You don't remember all these things if you win, but you remember each detail for years when you lose.

I actually wish HS playoffs were 2 out of 3, but I understand why they can't. They've played 2 out of 3 in championship finals for as long as I can remember (at least back early 70's), it is good they finally made semifinals series play.

    Good Luck to everyone.

    Playoff start times

I saw in the Salisbury Post today that the Carson/Marvin Ridge game is to start at 5pm on Friday due to MR not having lights. Isn't there a rule that states playoff games must begin at 7pm and if host team doesn't have lights, the visitors can request/force game to be moved to neutral site?

We have hosted playoff games at Marvin Ridge for the past 2 years and nobody has brought it up so far. I'm not saying that its not an official "rule" but it hasn't been an issue as of yet.

Both teams have to agree to the time and I guess not having lights, you really don't have too much choice and you don't want to lose that home field advantage

Carteret is solid top to bottom. Have to hit with them to beat 'em.

    CBA v. Hunt

I wonder who hates having to play this game the most, Hunt or CBA? I agree, its a shame they have to play each other the first round. The NCHSAA really ought to look into seeding the brackets after the regular season. Both these teams have had too good a season to have to play each other this early in the playoffs.

    It has begun

    Havelock 2
    West Brunswick 3

    WP: Lorenzo Piggott
    SV: Jay Gause

Gavin Lane (7-1) goes 5 1/3 and gives up 4 hits and left the game with runners on first and second. Both of those runners ended up scoring in the 6th and Havelock had the lead 2-1. Jesse Simmons lead off the bottom of the 6th with his 3rd hit of the night. Bruce Clewis laid down a bunt and reach base on an error. Ryan Sykes hit an RBI single to bring home Simmons and tie the score at 2. Tim Powell laid down a safety squeeze to bring home Clewis and give the Trojans the lead.

    Jesse Simmons 3 for 3 2B, RBI
    Nick Napolitano 2 for 3

West will host the winner of Rocky Mount and DH Conley, Tuesday, May 18 probably at 6pm if the winning school agrees
