One really good 2nd round matchup will be Ragsdale against the #2 North Piedmont team (East Rowan or Mooresville). I don't mind telling you that I think Ragsdale is the team to beat in the West. But-------- the way this format is (one & done) anything can happen & probadly will. I think there will be alot of upsets in the playoffs, starting in the very 1st round. There is a multitude of 3A teams that have one stud pitcher that can make some noise. Because of the different schedules these teams played during the regular season it's hard to compare records. Some conferences are much more competitive than others. (North Piedmont, for one) A #2 or #3 seed may have a easier path in the playoffs than the top seed because of the pre-determined brackets.

Always interesting to see how coaches manage using that one "ace" during the playoffs,,,,,,, I haven't see the brackets but if East Rowan is NPC's #2 team and facing a trip to Ragsdale in 2nd round, will be interesting to see how much (actually how little) Shive pitches in 1st round, saving him for that big 2nd round matchup.

agreed - what do you do? Ragsdale's ace - Nick McBride - 9-0, perfect game and about a .70 ERA under his belt. Do you pitch him in round one or save him for a potential round two matchup with East Rowan? Of course if McBride does go to round two then he won't pitch round three which could very well be a third game against SW Guilford - @ SW. One of only two teams to beat Ragsdale this year - both games were 1-0 on the scoreboard.

Of course Ragsdale is lucky to have ace #2 on the squad - David Coffey is 8-1, also with a no hitter this year and an ERA under .80 - that's a nice problem to have - which ace pitches when?

and while I have mentioned potential second and third round games - I'll not look ahead. We have to beat Parkland next Friday and worry about who's next after that.

Obviously you have to win TODAY, but if East Rowan finishes #2 out of NPC (where they are right now), then Wossa that 2nd round matchup should happen, and it'll be a good'en.

No, but Ragsdale HS is one of my old stomping grounds (many HS/Legion games there over the years), so I'll prob have to make that trip just to see ole Wossa again,,, and we'll give you the lowdown.

And we will tell it like it is...

... that is, if Wossa buys supper. :xyxthumbs:
