Does any of the Freedom crowd know if they got a team to fill that last spot? I must admit I have enjoyed the past two Super Saturday scrimmages. This years field is loaded and this scrimmage is quickly becoming the best pre-season basketball scrimmage in the state.

    Smoky Mtn Drops

Smoky Mtn drops from the Super Saturday scrimmage and has been replaced by Westover High School from Fayetville area. They are loaded with athletes.

No idea- just a phone call saying they wouldn't be coming down. The boys also cancelled from the X-Mas tourney for no reason.

Westover is a far better ''team". Smoky Mtn had the UNC signee but not sure if they have anyone else.

What is the date of Super Scrimmage?? all day ticket cost?

And on Degrafenreid, she don't score enough points against good teams, ever look at their schedule? I hear she verbal committed to Carolina but hasn't signed, maybe they felt it could only hurt her stock at this point.

BB is just about here , guess I'll have to start reading this thread again!

The Super Saturday scrimmage is Saturday Nov 11. I believe it cost $5 last year and that was good for the entire day. I think it's cool that they have the extra court at FHS this year, I remember last year they used Walter Johnson Middle School which is one of the nicer Middle School facilities in Burke County.

Just as a fan of the girls game, I appreciate all the time that the folks at Freedom put aside to make this scrimmage possible. There were lots of great talent on the floor today.

First off, the thing to remember is that after two hard weeks of tryouts, this is the first live competition for these girls. There were two girls Nikki Burton (West Charlotte) and Katheryn Lyons (Bishop McGuinness) who got injured today. Lyons is Maryland-bound and her injury looked significant but regardless you never wanna see talent go down before the season starts. Now, as far as the two NW4A Schools go...

I think if you are a fan of the Lady Titans you have to be pretty happy with the performance today. McDowell faced some good challenges throughout the day, the last scrimmage against High Point Central in particular showed a lot of promise. The matchup between Kurie Washington and HPC's Allison Spivey (ECU-bound) was particularly interesting. HPC tried to press us during that scrimmage but the combo of Kelsea Greene and Jessica Smith really broke down the Lady Bison's press and we were getting lay-ups all night long. I also liked that very aggressive zone that McDowell showed at different times thoughout the day. I look for them to really use that when needed this season. The next big thing I saw from today's scrimmages was the fact that the four freshmen that Silver is playing up are legit. Three of the four played today, while the other sat out. I see at least one if not two of these freshmen playing key roles this season. We are going to be a deeper team and a more aggressive team compared to last year but we still are young overall.

Freedom...don't know how many times I'm gonna say this but they need someone other than Ford to step up as a primary scorer. Freedom is a very young team though fielding only two seniors and two juniors. It will be interesting to see how it goes this season down in Morganton.

Here's a breakdown of the other teams that I watched today...

Bishop McGuinness- The Lady Villians are a 1A power in the state, a team that not many get to hear about. They are not super talented but they are well coached. It was bad to see the one big star on their squad go down(Lyons) but that is a part of the game and they'll have to adjust. They have a 6'3" sophmore that looked pretty good and I see a lot of schools targeting her after this season.

Fred T Foard- A pretty good team that will fight with Hickory for the CVAC 2A/3A title. They are quite experienced squad (8 combined Juniors/Seniors). From what I saw they are good at transition game and 3-point shooting.

Statesville- The Lady Grayhounds will be a competitive team in the 2A ranks, but nothing really stood out about them.

High Point Central- The Lady Bison were one of two teams today that is in some need of work. They loss all three games today (Hickory, Bishop McGuinness and McDowell) their offense never got going and they had a lot of breakdowns with the defense. I'm sure Kenny Carter will be working them girls hard as we near the beginning of the season.

Salisbury- Not quite the calibur of team as compred to previous seasons (they loss a lot of people from last year), but I look for them to come together by the end of the season and compete with East Rutherford, Smoky Mountain and others for spots in the 2A regionals.

Hickory- Very quick and scrappy team, a playoff team for sure but they'll have a tough go in getting past teams like TC Roberson in the 3A classification.

Butler and West Charlotte- Langston Wertz labels them as the two best public school teams in Charlotte. Both are talented (Butler has some taller girls) but I see undiscplined play on the court and while that may be okay in Charlotte, that always get exposed in the playoffs. Lets hope Burton is okay for West Charlotte, that would be significant if they were to lose her.

Providence Day- Falls in the same position as HPC. If you look at the teams playing on paper, Providence Day was likely the best team in the gym today but they played far from the type of team that played last season. Once again, its good to have this now and be able to work on it before the season starts.
