    Rose destroying Lumberton

    The magic season is ending badly. After four complete, Rose up 13-0. Rose is a very good team and Lumberton was miserable on defense tonight. I counted at least six errors on routine groundballs in the first three innings that opened the floodgates for a good hitting Rose team. Rose is very big and physical. Several of their players look like college kids already. Their lefty was very good, but not great. I have no idea if he was their ace or not. I would say he was 83/84 with a pretty good hard curve or slider. He did not record many strikeouts but wasn't hit hard at all.

    Weddington s pitcher was quite impressive himself. Had some good breaking stuff and kept our guys off balance. Good to get the win. Messer got in more jams than usual but got out of them all. Big hit by Jackson to drive in 3 runs.

    Jimmy Messer has been battling the flu and as of Friday morning went to school with a 100.4 degree temperature. He went to see the doctor several times on Friday and on his 2nd visit received 2 bags of I.V. fluid. He was extremely weak heading into the game Friday night and couldn't eat prior to the game.

    He had a real gutsy effort tonight with the 15Ks and allowed 3 hits. You could tell he was sick because he threw 136 pitches and he is accustomed to throwing 80 or less pitches each game. You know nothing is going to stop him from competing which is why he has the nick name 'Bulldog'. Jimmy has now pitched 65 innings on the year and only given up a total of 1 earned run earlier in the season to Watauga.

    Lucas Jackson was huge tonight in delivering 3 RBIs with the bases loaded to put the Spartans on the board. Jackson is one of the most clutch hitters you will find anywhere. South threatened several times to break the game open but ended up hitting into a double play several times.

    I was very impressed with Weddington and their pitcher did a great job limiting the big guns of South. South had to fight tooth and nail to win this game which is a tribute to Weddington.
