Ah, but for some that was their last game. Don't know about last year but that's the 2nd time in 3 years they've been coached out of the playoffs.

Congrats to Mikal, Tyler, John, Blaine and the other seniors on the great job they've done establishing a program on a winning foundation. Good luck to all on your future baseball (and non baseball) careers. Good kids, all of them.

To the MC coach...I would have done the same thing.:xyxthumbs: Providing force outs gives you a better chance of an out.

Obviously others disagree, but if a play had been made at 2nd, you would have been celebrated.....

Congrats to the MC team for on and off the field play. I've always believed a team is a mirror of their coach.

Country Day title runs ends in the Championship series

Charlotte Country Day advanced to the championship series with a thrilling walkoff 9-8 victory over Wesleyan Christian and then had to tee it up 25 minutes later against George Carter and the Forsythe Country Day Furies. Carter was a one-man wrecking crew with a 3-run dinger in the first and impressive dominance on the mound. William Frazier doubled and the Bucs collected two singles and that was it. Carter had total command of a sharp breaking curveball and it set him up for success all evening. Furies win 6-1.

In game two, the Bucs were rested and ready to play their way into a rubber game and it was a see-saw affair all the way. In the first, sophomore sparkplug Patrick Brady opened the game by singling up the middle and William Frazier doubled to left center to plate the Bucs first run. Tyler Holloway doubled in a run later with another gap shot. Adam Griffin and DC Arendas both drove the ball out of the ballpark to spark the Furies. Lee Harrison was both gutty and effective by mixing his sinking fastball with a very nice slider, throwing a complete game for the Bucs. The ultimate winning run scored on a sac fly. The Bucs were trailing 4-3 going to the bottom of the 7th. William Frazier led off with a double to deep left, but could only advance to third on a sac bunt. The Furies pulled the infield in and got the ground out to short they were looking for and Brandon Culbreth recorded the game-ending strikeout with a serious heater.

    Country Day finishes 21-6....

BRAVES, I ALWAYS RESPECT YOUR THOUGHTS AND OPINIONS, BUT YOU ARE only PC on this one

With a runner already on and one out, TC's BATTER had to score to win the game. Now after the walk, that batter is 90 feet closer. Much easier!! And that's what happened. Also the batter who got the free pass did not even sniff Morgan throughout the game. I completely respect the coach's decision, and his right to make the decision, but let's not give him a free pass saying the intentional walk was good baseball. It would have been nice had the coach even hinted to the players after the game that he had a part in this heartache loss for the seniors. Ask the players! They were incredulous at the time and after the game. Things happen and let's move on...:cuda::cuda::cuda:

    I agree

I happen to agree with his decision; no free pass intended. I can't make the assumption that the pitcher would get him out, but I do know the opportunity to get an out is increased with a force.

It's true I try to defend a coach when I can because in most situations it is undeserved when they are criticized. Coaches get blamed for losses when in fact the players had multiple opportunities to determine that. It's the same when an umpire gets blamed for a team's loss.

It was a heartbreaking loss for Mallard Creek and I understand the team's supporters being emotional in looking for reasons for the loss, but a 11-10 loss suggests there were many opportunities offensively, defensively and pitching that played a bigger role than an intentional walk to provide a potential force out.

I realize coaches can make some boneheaded decisions. Never more so then when they decide to hold back their #1 pitcher for the next round play off game. But I, also, agree that players determine the outcome of the game, not the coaches or the umpires. They ain't pitching, catching or hitting.

The coach probably feels worse than his critics right now so why not give him a break, wrong or right?

Tough way for the season to end. Reading thru all these comments, I'm left with the opinion that the coach made the right decision to walk the runner & go for the forceout, or make it easier for the forceout at least. Last play of game: 2 outs, runners on 1st & 2nd, and the next batter hits a fly ball to left field. Ball is dropped. So like someone said earlier, most of the time, players determine the outcome of games.
