I can take a bunch of talented youg high school girls and win a State, but can I take a bunch of .500 ball players and make State Champs out of them....Now that is coaching !!

.....I agree that an increase in offense is a good thing. I disagree, with respect, wait, let me say that I don't 100% disagree, but I'm 100% sure that I'm having trouble beleiving that a batter has 20% more reaction time.

Not for nothing but I like the 43', and I like the spikes instead of cleats too.

never thought about it before but a pitcher that can work the plate the extra distance seems to help.

i think both hitters and pitchers are going to sort this out and it will become a non-issue.

Did you not read the OP? My post was a direct comment to that post. And yours has nothing to do with the question about 43 feet.

Regarding your post, records stand for long times until a stud comes along and challenges them. Records dont care about little things like 43 feet or 40 feet or rise balls or anything except for stud hitters. Surely a change like the use of steroirds in MLB would make a difference but 43 feet is nothing like that. So I am not sure why mentioning HR records have anything to do with the general population of hitters hitting more homeruns.

This was nothing but a discussion on the effect of the addtional 3 feet and you turn it into attacking everyone.

    HA! Sorry
TBird but you're incorrect, with respect friend.
Bats have been lowered in the amount of "pop".
The strike zone is out of balance, both for the batter and then for the pitcher but it leans bigtime off the plate for a pitcher.

Next we'll hear that an umpire is looking for the fastest 21 outs in the game that he can get............uuuhhhhh, wait, I'm gonna have to think a spell on that gig! lol

Peace Folks! We're all in this for the same reason.

    :) no disrepect taken! ...additionally,...

...if you wanna see homeruns, go to a slowpitch tournament. slowpitch has taken over most areas.

moving the rubber back this year has started to separate the pitchers from the throwers. ergo, more homeruns so, in a very vague way, how do we encourage the throwers, who want to become pitchers, to not throw in the towel? I simply do not want this great game to fall by the wayside. you know? its about pitching. it is a pitchers game, and we should do all we can to keep it that way.

what do they do differently in california to perpetuate pitching? i notice when i look at the media guide for the ncaa softball tourney, the majority of the starting pitching comes from the west.

anyway, this is a great forum and i think its a great place to post ideas and opinions about a sport we all love no matter how kooky, zany or downright stupid they may be! afterall, someone was the mother of invention.

    correction

"I would like to see the NCHSAA put an asterisk in the record book, or at least a notation, that pitching and hitting stats recorded from the 2010 season and beyond were from the 43' pitching distance.

Something else to consider...years ago Major League Baseball increased the height of the pitchers mound. Guess what, hitting stats went down, for a while anyway. So if you look at this form a softball perspective, anything you do to give the pitcher an advantage or disadvantage will effect the hitting stats positively or negatively. So for now, the hitters in HS fastpitch do have an advantage with an extra 3 feet.[/"

MLB has never "raised the pitcher's mound". From 1903 until 1968, the height of the rubber was 15". After Denny McClean won 31 games and Bob Gibson had a one point nuthin' ERA the mound was lowered to 10" to give the hitters a chance.
MLB carried that idea a little too far when one considers expansion, smaller ball parks, not calling the high strike, juiced balls and the "juiced" players of the past couple of decades. With the steroid issue now becoming less of a factor, the game is becoming more balanced. Speed and defense matter again and the game doesn't look as much like beer league softball.

If the 43' produces more offense, In my opinion, that's a good thing. If the ball gets hit then the defense has to make plays, runners have to run bases and coaches have to think.

I appreciate watching a high level pitcher do her thing but when I pay to see a game, I want to see a GAME! Not just watch a pitcher and catcher playing catch.

Now, for the pitcher's Mommas and Daddies this might be a little tough to take. But if you have aspirations of your DD playing in college then you better get used to it. They pitch at 43' and the hitters, overall, are way better!
