    Going to 43 feet?

What will this do for the girls that tend to dominate other teams like a Chelsea Leonard? Will they be as fast and effective as before? Would this cause some adjustments to girls that throw alot of breaking and dropping pitches to make sure they get the ball near or to the plate?

Just curious because my DD is a rising soph. and will have to adjust to the change.

what we found was is that it helped the stronger pitchers. they were able to develop better/more movement in their pitches, without really effecting speed that much. it was going 43-40 that created the struggle. of course, its not the same for everyone and it may cause negative effects for some. by far though, it seemed to be fine.

    affect

The affect on going from 40' to 43' is on the off speed pitches. The release point has to be adjusted.

A fastball from 40' and 43' should not be affected unless your fastball has a little spin on it or natural break.

    I agree

This was the only issue my daughter had. I have seen some that had big breaking balls at 40ft have a little trouble adjusting but it doesn't take that long to correct it.

....I don't consider a "riseball" an off speed pitch. A pitcher will without a doubt have to make adjustments in their delivery of pitches, off speed and the moving heater.
Don't think that the hitters won't recognize a riseball, and still swing at it as it cruises out of the zone. Maybe "batters" won't adjust, but "hitters" will
I'm all for putting the ball in the pitchers hands on a field where everything is equal to what they will play in college.

This ain't 8U basketball, where the basket is lowered.

    I understand 10U pitching 35'.
I'm cool with the 10inch ball.

But after that age group, lets put these kids on a court with, say a 10' basketball goal, as well as, a standard field distance, and that includes the pitchers.

Does anyone know if the NCHSAA plans on adopting this change this year or waiting until 2010/11?

    Batters will love it!

I've attended three high level TB tournaments in the last month. I had not seen any since my DD last played 5 years ago. I was amazed that virtually no one struck out! Is it pitching worse? Are the hitters better? or is it 43'? I think it's some of all three but the 43' does matter.

This is good change. It will aid in pitcher development while putting more emphasis on the whole team. Defense will become more important. That said, in the end the teams with the best pitchers will win just like before.

We'll know for sure this Thursday. I'm predicting they'll change it to 43'. It seems like all TB is already pitching 43'.

I agree that it will be a positive improvement. It will help in many ways.

    Good Thing

I hope it does get pushed to this upcoming season 09-10. It makes the game more exciting with more hitting and you get to see the talent of the defense more often. Plus it gets the pitchers ready for what they will be doing in college and may give them a better chance at early playing time. I'm ready for a decision...
