Within conference i believe it is....but i swear i thought the conferences were "power rated" and in the case of the NW 3A-4A there are only 3 4A schools so they don't get a high "power ranking" come seeding time....

notsofast i believe you're right. now i remember when ive looked at the playoff brackets in the past they always have a seeding priority thing at the top. and the northwestern 4a was usually first but i guess since they changed the conference, they wont be that high anymore ?

Would that be kinda like the way the CVAC 2A/3A was until this year where they only had a few 3As but the majority of them were 2As and they were very good 2A schools like bandys, maiden, newton.. etc.. Newton seemed to always be at the top of the conference and by beating quite a few 2as.. weren't they sorta treated as if they were in a strong conference. Idk its confusing. One thing I do know is that if AC loses to Watauga and SC somehow, all this work could pretty much go for naught.

The seating priority rotates from year to year. It isn't based on anything just give each conference a chance to be one, two, three ect. That way each conference has a chance at home playoff games when two equal seated teams face each other. Just luck of the year when you are a 1 and meet another 1 if it is your conferences year to be the higher seed you get the home field

All this confusion is more reason for 5 classifications and non-split conferences. And of course winning records to make the playoffs.....but the NCHSAA cares only about the mighty $$$$.

In football they no longer have seeding priority by conference. Those are back in the old system before they split the classes into A and AA. Of course they still have these by conference priorities in baseball, basketball etc.

Now they take all the first place finishers and seed them by record. 10-0, then 9-1 then 8-2 etc. If there are two first place teams (or more) with the same record they flip a coin, pick a name out of a hat (not sure exactly) to determine who gets the better seed. After all the first place teams are seeded they go to the second place, third place and do the same working there way down until every team is seeded.

There is no power ranking. If Indy loses to Butler and is 9-1 going in they will be a second place seed and will be seeded behind all the first place teams and if there are three 9-1 second place teams then they will draw straws with the other two. A 9-1 Indy could end up with a 8 or 9 seed. Just like a 10-0 first place Butler could end up wiith a fourth seed if they are tied with three other 10-0 teams.
