    Conference Tournament upsets

The 3 and 4 seeds are in the finals of the SW4A tournament. This will change the seeding of the bracket for these teams. Finals on Monday.

Watauga is into the finals in the NW4A. A win for the Pioneers in the finals lands them a number 2 seed. Finals on Saturday.

Why would Providence drop from a 2 seed to a 4 seed?

People have asked how Providence could drop from a possible 2 seed to a possible 4 seed.

Providence finished the regular conference season tied with Myers Park at 10-4 in the SW4A and the two teams had split their games. Providence was awarded the second seed in the conference tournament based up the NCHSAA tie breaking procedure (they beat Weddington twice while MP split with Weddington as the worked their way down the standings comparing how each team did against the first place team, then second etc). This seed was only for the conference tournament.

The two teams (MP/P) meet for a third time in the tournament which MP won. This meeting will now be used to break the tie between the two schools for state play off seeding, so essentially at that point, MP is two and Providence three.

Weddington now in the finals can claim the SW4A 2 seed with a win. If this happens Weddington will move to 2, MP will move down one spot to 3, and Providence will drop one place to 4.

If MP wins, MP will stay at 2, P-3, and Weddington will hold at 4.

    NW4A Championship Final

    South Caldwell over Watauga.

East Burke will keep the 2 seed, Watauge stays at 3.

No matter how the seedings shake out, there will be some very good opening games...ripe for possible upsets. And there will be a few snoozers.

Something that jumps out are the records. It was just a few years ago where South Meck had a 20-5 record and missed the playoffs. This year they are 9-16 and are in the hunt. I'm not saying this is bad; It's just different.

So looking down the road a little bit...how about a possible round 3 match up of Tyler Hanover and North Davidson facing off at the school he transfered from with Ryan Dull and East Forsyth...now tell me there wont be some emotions if that game happens!!

Are the 5 wildcard teams locked in? Any possibility that one of them could be knocked out by another team?

Here is what I have for the others:

    SW4A: Independence 5-16; East Meck 3-17
    NW4A: McDowell 7-17; Freedom 1-23
    CPC: North Forsyth 5-15

The others are incomplete but in the Queen City league: Berry has only won a game or two. MECA, West Charlotte has 3-5 wins, Vance about the same. I think it is similar in the Metro with HP Central only with about 5 wins, and Greensboro Smith with just a hand full as well.

That is it. Remember that 32 of 42 teams make it.

    Thanks, MINCMI
I have no idea how you respond to all this stuff so quickly and accurately, but it's pretty amazing.
