Has anyone heard if the 5 to play 5 legislation has moved forward? Lot of talk in early October, but nothing lately.

This is a change that was requested initially by the basketball coaches. Right now I believe the vote on that isn't even due from committee until next January.

Latest Update: As of January 7th

The ACC has notified the NCAA national office that it is withdrawing a legislative proposal that would have permitted football student-athletes to engage in five seasons of competition.

It had been submitted in July and had earned support from the D1 Football Issues Committeed.

A similar proposal for men's basketball student-athletes that had ben formulated by the National Association of Basketball Coaches was withdrawn in September.

The Management Council of the NCAA met this past weekend to determine which legislative proposals would be sent out to the membership. 5 to play 5 isn't going to be one of them

Both the Basketball coaches and the Football coaches got nailed in the press for this proposal as "running the Universities" and having the in-mates in charge of the Asylumn. Press coverage in the national media was uniformly negative.

This topic is dead for probably another decade. It was originally proposed in the early 90's.
