Hapi- you have to understand, Mudcat doesn't use fuel. He just gets a push out of the mountains until he gets to Shelby...then somebody tows it back.

Let's see, $4 for the day...4 games...guzinto...okay, Braves can afford that. But is that for my whole family (I've got 17 of dem 'lil rascals) or are they going to have to be foul ball chasers to get in?

    TUESDAY SCORES

    Burns 8 East Rutherford 5
Josh Drewerys grand slam was the big blow as Burns advanced. Chris Cook pitched 6.2 and Drewery got the final out. Cook and Tyler Watts also homered for Burns, while Zeke Blanton took one out for the Cavs.

    Kings Mountain defeated East Meck.

South Meck defeated a lively Crest team in 10 innings.

    Evening games

S Meck over Crest 6-4 in 10 innings. S had 14 hits and Crest gave up 4 errors. Matt Andruss threw innings 7-10 and got the win I think. TJ Worrell started. Rubie was in the middle.

C Christian over Shelby 6 or 7 to zero. K Barthleson threw a no-no into the 7th when a sick duck dropped in over 2nd base for the first and only hit of the night for Shelby.

    Winners play tomorrow evening @ 7. Losers play @ 1PM I think.

    wp: barthleson

christian got off to a slow start then got 1 run in the 4th, then put up 4 in the 5th and 1 in the 6th. dan hill went 2-4, gantner went 1-3, m. fulginiti went 1-3, t. kirkpatrick had a double in the gap as well. barthleson pitched very well and was pretty much unhittable, that is until the 7th inning when some guy hit a blooper over 2B to break up the no-no.

What a heart breaking game for the Chargers. Had the top ranked 4A team down to one out in the 7th, but couldn't hold on. You can't give a good team like South Meck a chance to stay in the game. They will jump up and bite you. Well, hopefully Crest can go and whip crosstown rival Shelby to fill a little better.

NC - Here is the details from the S Meck/Crest game: Crest outplayed S Meck and had it in the bag until 2 outs in the top of the 7th. It was probably fun to watch for those who didn't have a rooting interest, but really not a very well played ballgame by either side. (8+ errors overall, not counting numerous mental errors) If I said S Meck ran the bases like Ray Charles, that would be a cutdown to Ray. It is easily their greatest weakness - being dumb on the basepaths and running themselves out of innings. Cost them 4+ runs last nite alone!!

Quite frankly it looked like Crest was playing to win - S Meck was playing "not to lose," yet somehow came away with a "w"

    Crest vs South Meck

I'm trying to find the right words to describe this game. First, I would like to thank the Shelby Chamber of Commerce for ordering the beautiful weather yesterday. Can you do it again today? Second, I would like to thank Mudcat for the use of his last year's RV. I see you never got around to having it towed back. ~side note~ Mudcat, the tires are flat.

I love watching the Crest "munchkins" ( I say that in a loving way) swing the bat. Coaches talk about having an approach at the plate...sometimes filling the heads of HS players with so much silliness that they are confused while batting. Crest players use the basic approach...if you like it, swing. Their leadoff hitter Luke? stands about 3'8" but swings the bat like he is 6'5". Dusty Quattlebaum, SS, does not get cheated in his bats and OJ McFarland is very confident at the plate. All of those kids at Crest are battlers and 1-9 can swing the stick. My hat goes off in saluting the Chargers in the way they play the game.

South Meck, on the other hand, looked like they were still at the beach. As a team, they looked like they were sleep walking until the 7th inning. Into the 7th, they had 11 hits and 2 runs. Time and again they had runners in scoring position and left them stranded. Players were watching strikes down the middle of the plate and swing at balls in the dirt. And then..bam..they woke up and displayed a lot of character. They scored 2 runs in the 7th to tie and for the first time in the whole game they showed some life. Reid Rollinson had a key double to tie the game and Josh Cable hit a double in the 10th that plated the winning runs.

Ryan McCluney for Crest and TJ Worrell for SM hooked up for a pitching duel through 5 innings, but the hero in the pitching dept was SM's junior Matt Andruss. He went 4.2 innings of shutout ball where every pitch could determine the outcome of the game. My hats off to SM for showing the character to comeback and to Reid, Josh and Matt for making major contributions.

I can see why Crest will be a strong playoff team. These kids play hard, play well and will battle anybody...they are a fun team to watch
