Are there any other 8u teams out there that are tired of always having to play Top Gun in Concord? We are trying to find other tournaments for our girls to play in. Either they don't offer 8u or no 8u teams are signed up. We are tired of going to the same place and playing the same teams all the time. If anyone else feels the same way, please branch out and sign up to play somewhere else.:cool2:

Agreed! Find you a couple of other 8U teams and a field no one is using on a Saturday and play your heart out. Save the money you would give the TD and do something fun with the girls after the games. Greedy TD's will get all your money soon enough. Spend your money on the players while you still can.

No one will ever convince me there's any way to justify travel ball for seven-year-olds. Kids this age don't need 'competition' to get better. They need good instruction and repetition in a safe, fun environment. They really don't need to be yelled at by obnoxious moms and dads until around 11 or 12 :)

Agreed, my opinion 12u is plenty early enough, I have seen too many girls get burned out.

    Have experienced both sides:

Son started playing travel ball @ age 7 played every summer & fall season until Senior year in high school. Very good baseball player: AAU State Championships, started on Varsity as a freshman, all conference with DII offers. Came to me prior to senior year and told me that he was tired of playing baseball. Burned out stopped playing!

Daughter started playing travel softball @ age 16. Still learning and loves playing softball. Now a senior in high school and has signed to play D1 softball next year. Not close to burn out!

As a parent that has experienced both situations highly recommend letting a kid be a kid, play all sports, have sleepovers, go swimming, fishing & just enjoy being a kid. They grow up fast!

    how often does that happen?

so many kids start playing TB at early age; probably not too many that wait to start at age 16 & go on to play college ball.

    8u

The younger players have a chance to play travel ball almost all year long now days From March-Early Dec.A few years go 8u didn't really start up until mid May and pretty much ended when Aug rolled around.I have been through the 8u travel ball 3 times with 3 daughters who are now 16,13,and 11 and they are all still playing. When we played on the weekends out of town we would go do things around that town or sight see and do some non softball things.I also think it doesn't matter what age they are everyone needs a break every now and then. Now Ifa,Wfc,SCASA,USFA,ISA,AAU and NSA offer 8u tournaments.I would love to know what percentage of players now or that go on to play college played 8u!!I would say that percentage would be well over 50%

Agreed, been down a similar road, son started at 7 and now as sophmore does not have the desire to play, daughter started at 13 and is about to finish her freshman year playing D1, and was one of 3 nominees for team MVP, she still loves it.
