It's frustrating as heck when your defense plays their best game of the season and you get an incredible performance from a guy like Terrence Kincaid and yet because of four bad snaps on punt plays, Alexander Central scores three touchdowns on a net yardage of less than 90 yards to win the game. That pretty much sums up how it went for McDowell.

Kincaid ended up with 122 yards on 31 carries but that's very misleading. If you take away the -60 yards because Kincaid had to recover the bad punt snaps then the stats would be more impressive.

    South Caldwell @ Watauga

    S. Caldwell 7
    Watauga 14

Pioneers convert 4th and 9 with under a minute, a Beeson-to-Smith hook up for about 30 yards to set up first and goal. With his team trailing 7-6, Breitenstein does the rest. His second TD capped a 250ish-yard performance. Well, actually he capped it with an INT on the last play of the game.

South's score came in the first quarter after a Watauga turnover gave them the ball at the Watauga 14. I think Messer finished off the short drive. South did not move the ball much, but did get close enough on two other occasions to miss field goals.

Watauga overcame a slew of penalties and some bad special teams play (including botched extra point and blocked field goal) to stay perfect.

Now that Watauga is 6-0 and now that it has beaten a solid 4-A team, are the critics silenced? I suppose the next two weeks (Freedom and ACR) will provide the answer.

Rockets roll to a 49-0 lead before the subs take over in the 3rd. The Rockets ran only 6 offensive plays in the second half however those plays accounted for 147 yards, including a 60 yard TD run by CJ Davis and a 75 yard TD run by Darius Spencer. Total ACR had 427 yards on 27 offensive plays.

    Ouch

Them Rockets appear to be loaded this year--even more than usual.

Watauga update: Breitenstein over 1100 yards for the year and now has 19 TDs according to the radio guys. BUT, it's not a one man team. The biggest play of their whole season is that 33-yard 4th down pass from Beeson to Smith, and their entire defense deserves credit for bottling up the vaunted Spartans rushing attack.

The game was not as close as the score indicates. ( and of course that may not be a final since I left with 4 minutes on the clock.

Mooresville jumped out to a 10-0 lead but Statesville made it 10-7 right before the half. Statesville grabbed a 14-10 lead in the 4th quarter but Mooresville scored a pair of smash mouth TD's late to put the win on ice.
