What a great ball game last night in Pleasant Garden. If you love defense you got all you wanted and more. Both Ragsdale and SEG are blessed with tough lines and speedy linebackers and it showed as both teams struggled to put drives together the whole game.

It turned into a punting/field position battle which SEG won through 3 ½ quarters often pinning Ragsdale deep. SEG scored their only points with 2:40 left before half on their second blocked punt of the night – this one recovered in the end zone for 6 points. SEG went for two but the Ragsdale D stoned them at the line.

Second half was more of the same. Both offenses might put together a 20 yard drive then punt it away. Ragsdale O looked out of synch much of the night – SEG got a good rush on Romer – when he did get time to throw his throws were a little off or passes were dropped. SEG ran all night – but never for much yardage. Ragsdale was getting good penetration and the linebackers were swarming.

Only time the SEG offense threatened was after a shanked punt gave them good field position. They found a little running room and move down to the 12 yard line – but the Ragsdale D held and SEG missed a 35 yard FG on 4th and 16. From there Ragsdale put together a beautiful 82 yard drive. Romer found four different receivers on the drive, converting twice on fourth downs – the last an 11 yard TD pass to Nick Mearite with 57 seconds left. Kasey Redfern made it from the soccer game just in time to kick the go ahead PAT then boom the kick off into the end zone.

SEG got one first down but two incompletions were followed by a sack (and intentional grounding) and another sack to turn the ball over. Things got testy then as the SEG QB (or somebody) bounced the ball off a Ragsdale helmet – pushing and shoving and three players ejected (two from SEG, one Ragsdale – not sure who). Was good to see both teams line up and shake hands after the scuffle. It was too good a game to end that way.

Romer finished with 133 yards passing – over 80 of it on that last drive. As great as the defense played it was fantastic to see the offense prove it can get it done when the games on the line.

Ragsdale 6-0 with E Randolph coming to Jamestown Friday night. I’m glad they got their first win out of the way.

i'm sorry to say that once again i was right. in the ACR and Alexander Central game there were no offensive holding penalties called on Alexander Central as i had predicted. Since the first quarter of the first game there have been ZERO holding penalties called on the rocket opponents.A total of 5 games 3 quarters and 2 ot's without 1 offensive holding calls.ACR plays at Freedom friday and i'll predict that no matter how many times the patriot's offense holds there will be none called in the game.
