    Marvin Jarman

...even has his own Facebook Fan page...

No kid in the game. Nothing at stake. Just a pure unadulterated love of the games the kids play. No bigger fan of Mickey Mantle has ever lived.

Ask him about a JHR game played (be it football, baseball, basketball) in 1972 (any year)... not only give you JHR stats, but opposing team stats and who the coaches were.

He is an inpiration/motivator not only to all the athletes at our school, but all the kids in the area... and is a landmark. If you attend an athletic event (LL, HS) and he's not there, it's cause he is on the way from finishing up eating. Just don't offer him any chocolate, as he doesn't care for it. We'll have lunch and it takes a while as everyone knows Marvin and has to say hey. He attends the NC Coaches Clinic every year and it's incredible the number of people that know him. IF a coach doesn't know him personally, they sure know him by sight.

Before the first game of a season, he has digested all the players names and stats ACROSS the state. If you are a 4A player in the state of NC, I can assure you, Marvin knows your game and has you ranked.

You will find him in the Deacons corner at Guy Smith Stadium... while he may appear he's napping, he can tell you the count, pitch count, last pitch thrown.

I feel I am fortunate I get to hang out with him. He's as unjaded and loyal a fan of the games played as you will ever find. Do yourself a favor and get to meet him.

    More Marvin Jarman

Marvin, of course, cannot drive. We (Rose supporters) spend half our time dealing with our kids and the other half of our time giving Marvin a lift to where he needs to go. However he won't ride with just anyone, he has to know you. If he can't find a ride, he will walk.

I think the best way to become Marvin's friend, buy him a Mountain Dew or take him to K & W. Marvin loves Mountain Dew and he loves K & W. He is a classic and like Diesel says, I feel fortunate to know him.

I have known Marvin for many years. Not only does he know 4A baseball, he konws baseball in general. I have seen hem chase foul ball after foul ball in the oppressive heat of the State Games. What a wonderful man and a delight to talk to. Marvin Jarman is definitely a legend in NC baseball.
