Posted this on the other baseball forum but I figured I will get more feedback from people in this forum.

A-Rod and his agent (Scott Borus) are trying to get him a new contract for 12 years 360 million dollars.

Is he worth it or why waste your money type guy?

Arguably the best player in baseball. Some may agree, some may dispute, but you can't argue .300/40/130 every year. Doesn't miss games due to injury, like him or not he sells tickets. 12 years seems a little excessive, but the 30 million when you look in terms of what is out there and what they are being paid, he possibly gives you the most bang for the buck.

Strictly my opinion. And I think 30 million is excessive for anybody in the sports world, but it's going to happen and he is a franchise player.

    Gamble?

It is always a gamble to sign someone for so long but look to the future and see what you could have.

If, and it is still a big if, he stays healthy and still bangs out an average of 30 HR's a year he will be around 900 HR's. It sounds like a number that will never be reached but if he did and he stays out of trouble and continues to be the good ambassador for MLB that he is now...... WOW!!! What would you have? I can't understand why so many people don't like the guy. Just because Texas started this thing by giving him so much money. If my boss comes up to me tomorrow and offers me that much money you will be hating me because I'm taking it.

Of course I don't know him personally but he seams like a good person. When he was going through the bad slump last year and being bashed by the media he reacted a whole lot better than I would have. I am not a huge fan of his or anything but If I had the money to pay him and I had to gamble on one guy to build around for the future I would pick him or Albert Pujols. Besides in 12 years $30 Million a year will be the average salary. lol.

And just in case my boss reads TBR I just want to say that I know that I am only worth about half that much a year. Where do I sign?

    Is he worth it?

Just like Cal Ripken Jr.....when his career is over we will realize he was worth every penny and then some BUT just like rock stars and movie stars the salaries are out of control.

This is why I couldn't be a GM or owner. I would never pay the top guys top guy money. Would I rather be Colorado, AZ, or Cleveland owner or Steinbrenner? Where is the glory if you win with a payroll three times the league average? And how bad would it hurt to pay 189.5 million plus Clemens salary for a flameout in the first round? Problem is, there is always a rich idiot out there ready to pay whatever for talent. A-Rod will get his money.

He'd look the BEST in an Oriole unfiform so don t be surprised :) The money aspect is and has obviously gotten ridiculous... I think he is a little too showboat style for me but as long as he can put up these kind of numbers i d take him! I do not think he is necessarily a good 3rd baseman tho! He has ZERO range to his glove side and rarely goes for anything hit with a little mustrad if it is beyond his cross over step!?!? There fore, not a TEN defensively in addition to being error prone... I think he doesn t hustle except when he wants or feels like... Thoughts?

I never really thought about A-Rod not being highly skilled in all phases of the game. I just know he has never done squat in the post-season and that makes him not worth the money in my book. Give me the guys that get in done in crunch time.

The guy has the tools. Some one will let that number cross their mind once or twice. But that is a long time to be the man at that price. If he did work it out you can bet that the fine print would be read.:book::book:
