Baseball is a strange game. Upsets occur in this sport more than any other. That being said, you sometimes have teams ranked wrong because of inadequate information. This is my list of "Upsets of the Week" ... it differs from the mild surprises list.

    1. East Gaston 8, South Point 4

East Gaston had 3 early non-conference losses and South Point was expected to continue their dominance of the Big South 3A from last year.

    2. New Bern 3, Wilmington Laney 2

New Bern is young and Laney is a perenial powerhouse. Good win for the Bears.

    3. NW Guilford 6, Charlotte Christian 5

Christian has beaten some of the top 6A teams in Florida, so this result was a BIG surprise. Good victory for NW Guilford.

    4. Watauga 5, McDowell 2

Watauga up-ended previously undefeated McDowell. The result of this one was a surprise to me.

    5. Independence 7, Hopewell 2

On paper, no one in the Meca 8 can play with Hopewell. The games haven't been played on paper this year and Hopewell suffered their critical 3rd conference defeat.

    6. Mt Tabor 7, West Forsyth 1

West Forsyth with only 1 defeat was beaten by .500 Mt. Tabor in a surprise to me.

    7. North Davidson 12, Glenn 1

North Davidson had a great game, handing Glenn it's first loss.

    8. Wake Forest-Rolesville 9, Garner 0

WF-Rolesville was ranked in Pre-season .... but Garner is Garner and Hempy is AWESOME. This was a big victory for WFR.

    9. East Wake 9, Green Hope 4

Green Hope beat Fuquay-Varina twice last year and plan on trying to do it again this season. East Wake is surprising everyone with their power and team.

    Mild Surprises:
    Ashbrook 13, South Point 2
    Central Cabarrus 3, Independence 2
East Meck 3, South Meck 2
    Mooresville 4, ALBrown 1 (M'ville playing well - Brown is up/down)
Franklin 6, TC Roberson 4 (Franklin is for real folks)
Myers Park 6, South Meck 4 (8 Inn - only because it was at SM)
Mt. Pleasant 5, NW Cabarrus 0 (not the result, the score)

As the week ends, there are two more surprises

    Bandys 5, East Rutherford 3

East Rutherford had been on a 21 consecutive game winning streak against 2A competition ...... until today. Big win for Bandys.

    Olympic 8, East Meck 7

After destroying their competition earlier this week, East Meck let their guard down again. Olympic is definitely playing the spoiler role this season, just as predicted.
