Most of the players and teams either moved on to Legion ball or On Deck and a few other showcase teams

CSB/AABC is still alive and kicking and getting geared up for their summer 2003 season! There are quite a few teams playing this year in the CSB/AABC league in Charlotte that are classified in the skill level of between the rec teams and the traveling teams. We just need to find a CSB/AABC poster to do some reporting!

That's not what they promoted (between rec and travel). It was hyped as the premier venue for baseball in the Carolinas... after all it's the league where Ken Griffey got started up in Cincinnati, blah blah blah.

Look, the Queen City Babe Ruth (21 13-14 yr old teams this spring I think) teams can beat teams in AABC. Weddington Babe Ruth teams can beat most of the AABC teams.

I know coaches of teams in AABC last year that hadn't heard a peep out of the league this sping. Why? oh why?? Name some teams: the Black Sox!?!?!?! come on, the kids were/are wonderful but the that team is WWWWWWEAK! yowza.

Seriously, enough of the apologetics. Give me something concrete, they been blowing hootie dust promises like that from the get go!

They haven't even updated the league website since 2001!!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOObody should be forced to defend gaaaabage like that. I just think they let a lot of kids down over the years.

I'm not sure where you are coming from...

The AABC was terrific the last two years in Charlotte. But the players I know of have gone on to Legion ball and Showcase teams. Where they stand at this point, I have no idea, SouthLoop apparently does.

But to say they sold a bill of goods and did not meet those expectations is inaccurate. They were everything and more from my experience with AABC the last 2 years. But where they stand now...I have no idea!

I guess we have different perspectives. I was in on the "sales meetings" from the orig promoters bout 3 years ago. I sat in on at least 2 separate meetings (one with a team, one with a league) and they promised high levels of competition, teams evaluated by high school coaches to ensure the competition was uniform, practice fields, clinics blah blah blah. Each year the quality of the teams degraded. They never kept a team out and couldn't replace the teams that got frustrated at the failed promises and Rte 66'd. I will say last fall was decent, but only because HS coaches used it to work out their teams (arm's length of course) in the fall. All AABC seems to be - 15 and U - is a rec league.

The concept is great and a metro area like CHLT should have a LOCAL venue to assemble, retain and compete with the best talent around. I'm just wondering what happened because I'm telling you I was there and it ain't near the vision they hyped at the get go!

Southloop may know what teams are in it, what ages but how would anyone know it exists? Like I said, they tain't even updated the website since 2001: http://www.eteamz.com/carolinaaabc/
Nough said, I won't kick the dog any mo!

I know the guys that you speak of. Unfortunately, they are no longer involved with AABC..their son's have moved on and so did they.

The teams that I remember that played AABC schedules:

Mudcats- went on to the AAU Nationals and placed very high

    Cardinals- qualified for USSA Nationals

Reds- talented team that merged many players with On Decks O's 16-under showcase team

Blues- they were very strong, winning a USSSA tournament and placing high in many others

Cougars- always placed well in AABC (National) tournaments and AAU as well.

These were some of the teams off the top of my head that were very good.

The concept was terrific...coached by HS coaches and really spent a lot of time on the development of players vs the bottom line of winning tournaments. Could play quality teams without having to travel across the union to enter AAU tournaments...cost savings alone made the concept attractive.

When the visionaries, who made AABC a reality in Charlotte, decided to move on, there wasn't anyone with their expertise to pick up the reigns.

I'm not trying to descredit any existing teams in AABC because I am not familiar with them, but the 2 years I was connected ...it was great!!!

What i have found to be the case in many instances is this. Teams no longer want to play just AAU ball or AABC, but demand their teams play showcase tournaments..hence, the move away from those associations..is it right?..that's debatable...is it a fact?...definantly!!!

Hasn't the CSB/AABC season started? Why still haven't we heard anything at all about this league and game scores?

    Sat. 24th-- Charlotte Rhino's 16's vs. Ondeck O's 15's

    Game 1: Rhinos 6 - O's 1
    Game 2: Rhinos 7- O's 0

Rhino's Pitching staff allowed only 5 hits for the day. O's are a very good young team with tremendous size and potential. Rhino team has plenty of speed, pitching and power at the plate.
