on this forum, we discuss the "small stuff". its how we learn to handle specific situations like your ACE coach being thrown out...that was a good question.

    I read this somewhere:

Don't sweat the petty stuff and
    Don't pet the sweaty stuff.

    Just sayin'!

I took the first class. Took about 50 minutes and $25.

I am having an issue though with the lack of a written reference from ASA. Where in the ASA Code, the ASA website, or any ASA publication does it state that this is a requirement?

I have been told that the Board of Director's approved it in December. Well, that's nice, but let's see it in writing please.

    ACE Certification Interpretation in GA

Just a note from the way they are interpreting it in Georgia (I ain't saying it is right, just letting those of you know who may be coming here for a national qualifer or one of the ASA Nationals that Georgia is hosting this year).

1)Every team has to have at least one ACE certified coach present at all times while they play.
2)An ace certified coach will have to present his certification upon the team check in. If the ACE certified coach is not present or does not have his certification, the teams registration will be held until such time as he/she arrives and checks in. If the coach is not there for the start time of the first game, the team will forfeit.
3)If the team only has one ACE certified coach and that coach gets ejected, the team forfeits that game.
4)This is protestable, just like illegal players, so if a team believes that the other team does not have an ACE certified coach, they could protest and the coach would have to produce his certification. Just like an ASA card or birth certificate. (very extreme)
5)Likewise, ASA could spot check a team for ACE certification, just like an illegal bat.

Bottom line, you need to have more than one coach who is ACE certified on every staff. They need to be reliable and probably the most level headed coach on the staff and the least likely to get ejected. Make sure he is not the manager who might get ejected for an illegal subsitution infraction.

For none National Events, if the only ACE Certified Coach gets ejected from the game and he/she identifies him or herself as being such, the umpires have been instructed to allow that coach to sit "VERY QUIETLY" in the dugout until the completion of the game. If then they continue, they would be furthur removed from the dugout and the team would have to forfeit.

Being ACE certified should not be a big thing unless you are a bad person with a bad background and if so, you probably do not need to be around kids anyway.

This will all come back to insurance. If TD's allow teams to play in ASA tournaments with non-ACE certified coaches, they could risk voiding their ASA insurance in the case of a law suit. I know that is extreme, but it is the truth. Same would be if a TD allowed teams to wear metal cleats and then a kid got hurt in an ASA tournament. ASA does not allow metal cleats, so the insurance would be voided if a claim were to be filed.

    Just FYI,
    Ty

    FYI

Just from my experience from taking ACE........don't wait until the last minute to take it. Obviously most of you have already taken it or at least have it on your mind or this thread wouldn't be here.
But from my experience with taking the ACE cert, for some reason my background check was hung up for four days for some reason before I could take the certification.
I know this isn't the norm and most have had minimal delays (if any) but since ASA is no longer requiring us to enter a SS# this type of delay could happen.
So........just don't wait until the week of your first tournament to take it, just to be on the safe side.
Besides the delay in background check the certification video's were very informative and brings to light many things we as coaches need to keep in mind when working with our youth and their parents. Time well spent IMO.
