Hey guys.....This is where I come when I need some advice. I've went over Middle school softball here in Iredell County before. Long story short...School system has NOTHING to do with middle school baseball/softball here so its basically up to volunteers to do it. We have sign ups just like rec ball.......Well we at North Iredell Middle currently have 42 kids signed up. Might have a few more sign up at the last sign up. Tommorrow night.

We are having a 2 hr open field Saturday for the purpose of trying to get these teams as even as possible.(We are going to draft) Any pointers on how to conduct this with that many players and so 3 coaches can see them all, would be appreciated.

Sure would be simpler if the school system would take it....Hire a coach....have tryouts and cut.....(Like they do for every other sport in the county except baseball/softball) Middle school is supposed to be preparing them for high school.........Sorry on my soap box again.......Better get off.....HaHa...But any advice would be appreciated....Thanks

One suggestion is to get qualified people that know the game ,but do not know the kids, and let these qualified individuals( IE. coaches from other areas) pick the team or consult with you the coach..you will probably carry between 14-15 kids..sometimes the Booster Clubs require that you carry at least 14-15 kids per roster. We faced the influx of kids in our program last year, but every school has political issues ,and that can ruin a program. That is why I say let neutral qualified people pick the team...usually counties only pay for basketball & cheerleading at the middle school level..GO FIGURE !!! If you do it this way, then the angel of death want be following you around as you get those mean stares from upset parents..

    :fight:...... :hammer:

Guru is 100% on this one. You need to have knowledgable people from somewhere else select the teams. And, every kid must come to tryouts....no "sleepers" (who always end up being 1st rounders) allowed.
