.....a 2 year school, maybe a so called junior college or a CC, ie community college, or maybe a prep school like Hargrave Military Academy etc.

My question is this.....How does the recruiting gig go with this group of kids?

Can the kids contact coaches of 4 year programs?

Can 4 yr. program coaches contact the kids?

    If yes, then when?

As our kids choose to go to the next level, many excellent ballplayers go to 2 year schools, no slander whatsoever, as a matter of fact, many of these kids are very much needed on 4 year team rosters.

Whats the protocal of the kids, parents ,coaches concerning this gig?

    Thanks

They have changed the rules of transfer eligibility for Juco to a 4 year school. It's much more stringent and some complain very unfair for those players.

"The new rules require athletes to complete at least 40% of the requirements for a degree at their institution by the start of their third year in college, up from 25% for most athletes and 35% for those who did not meet Division I's initial-eligibility standards coming out of high school.

The standards increase to 60% by the start of the fourth year and to 80% by the start of the fifth year, up from 50% and 75%, respectively.

The rules are especially tough on junior college athletes who have to take remedial courses, most of which do not count towards the eligibility requirements.

There are specific rules for a (2-4 athlete) and a (4-2-4 athlete- one that transfers from a 4 year school to a juco and back to a 4 year program) and the rules are separated by qualifier, partial qualifier and non-qualifier. It gets a bit complex.

Also JUCO athletes must find courses to take at their school that will transfer in their major at the recruited school---often finding out that those courses are not available to them.

There is also a concern that a JUCO can't afford "tudor" support that 4 year institution routinely provides.

A 2 year institution is an excellent opportunity for students to get started in their career, but for an athlete the roadblocks can be enormous.

Okay...I was waiting for someone else to post, so I don't dominate this thread. If no one posts by tomorrow, I'll be glad to.

...thanks brother. I think that JUCOs are great, if I were a college coach, I'd be hunting down as much talent as I could from these schools.
