I think in Dice K's situation, this was his first year of pitching in major league baseball. Quite a bit of difference in overall talent level than what he has faced in the past. I'm sure he will make the necessary adjustments.

I'll tell ya what, the guy has some unbelievale pitches, including a 97 mph FB. With his stuff, continued experience in the league, learning the batters, I think he can become a premiere pitcher.

    Dice K

Listening to the announcers last night, Dice K's situation in Japan wasn't as "grand" as I thought it was. His won/loss record wasn't what I would consider "dominant." He only played against 5 other teams as they were in a 6 team league. And, he certainly didn't have to travel as much in Japan being that Japan is so much smaller than the US.

What makes him so much more valuable than younger, upcoming US stud pitchers? Was it a particular pitch that he threw that blew the scouts away? Was it the way he handled big games and pressure in Japan? Again, his record (can't remember it off the top of my head) wasn't as impressive as I thought it would be......why all the big fuss in bringing Dice K to the US????

And, before anyone throws me under the bus.....YES, he does throw better than I do. I'm more of a "batting practice specialist!"

I couldn't help but shake my head when they said he pitched 216 pitches one day, the next dayhe was used as a closer and the next day he pitched a complete game. I'm shocked that the guy can lift his arm!!!!

He has terrific stuff, but he needs to work on getting ahead in counts and not concetrate on K's. I really think he will be an outstanding pitcher....$50 million worth?.....not yet and maybe never, but ML baseball follows trends and right now, Japanese baseball pitchers are trendy

He helped the Red Sox get to the World Series. I doubt they would be there without him. May not be worth 50 million yet but a lot of people would trade places with the Red Sox this morning.

Clemens cost the Yankees 28,000,000 (includes luxury tax) for basically 1/2 a season service.
Not bad for a 45 year old pitcher.
BTW, the NY Yankees have all four of the 20 million dollar + MLB players in 2007:
    Clemens
    Arod
    Giambi
    Jeter

Despite all the hoopla about Dice K being the 100 million dollar man, his actual salary in 2007 is 6,333,333.

    Red Sox Shmed Sox.......

Josh is in mourning today! You should feel bad for him. As much as I hate to say it, congrats to the Red Sox. :bigcry:

Oh well, with that being said, the rise of my Philadelphia Phillies is encouraging.

Josh Beckett is as dominating a playoff pitcher as there is in the major leagues right now and if he has more opportunities and has the continued success, might just be one of the best if not the best of all time.

With all that being said, we will see what kind of difference the Yankee empire changes will bring around. They have alot of quality young pitching and players.

EBDean and Josh will see to it that the Yankees rise again. :31:
