I saw Alex Wood at the Ardrey Kell scrimmages yesterday. He said his rehab from TJ surgery is going great - he has been throwing off the mound for a week or two and may not redshirt this year at Georgia after all.

He may try to pitch as early as April !

Congrats to him (and his family) ! Answered prayers.

    Awood at Breakfast

I saw Alex at Breakfast at Cardillo's, he looks great (thank goodness he takes after mom) :) He said he feels good and is planning to pitch this year. Awesome news for a great kid and great family!

Its amazing its been a year since Alex's senior baseball season began. His rehab has gone perfectly and it surprised all of us when Coach Perno said he wanted to put him on the 35 man roster so he will not be redshirting. Sometime in May he may see a few innings getting ready for the Summer and next season. Thanks for the kind comments.

Alex is one of those young men that you really cheer for. Not only is he a talented pitcher, but is an even better kid....also he is a real character, too- a great personality!

Speaking in general, IMO, based on my personal experience as well as discussing this with many players that had the surgery. it takes a minimum of 18 months for a pitcher to be game ready physically, but that's just the first hurdle. Equally as important if not more so is the mental part of recovery- that actually can take much longer.

Timing is important, too. When a pitcher comes back from this surgery they are still feeling their arm out and trying to overcome doubts, because there is still things to overcome--- such as scar tissue tearing and apprehension of "cutting loose" and another difficult question to answer: What caused it? Was it my mechanics? Do I need to change it? If one comes back before they are 100% ready, physically and emotionally, you risk having games that may be shaky in the beginning. When you have that, a coach will lose confidence and now you've opened a can of worms.

I would suggest to every college pitcher to use summer ball as your rehab games to recover. To do so during the college season, when the games mean something, is too heavy a risk and can setback your opportunities. Despite reports that you may hear, it takes much longer than a year to be game ready.

The good news is...when you are ready, you have a brand new arm.

There is no doubt in my mind that AWood will be coming back stronger and better than before.

Braves - You got that right

Alex Wood is a really super kid - his parents (okay, his mom) did a really great job !

    hahahaha - couldn't resist Dawgs...

Hope he works his way back slowly... he is pretty sharp and I am sure he will listen to Braves words of wisdom - Braves and TJ have been down this path...
