With Matt Payne's homerun against Freedom, he breaks the school record for homeruns in a season. He now has (11) on the year.

    Way to go Matty P.:applause:

since the NW4A schedules all sports to be played at the same time I only saw the last 2 outs of the game.
The Hickory Daily record said a hit by pitch followed by a walk and a single by Morris in the first scored the run . Bumgarner was the winner and Teague the loser with both giveng up 3 hits.
Kerley for ACHS had two hits with one a triple.
I think this ties South Caldwell with McDowell for third place in the Conference

Word around town was that in the bottom of the 7th ACHS got the lead batter on base, then a perfectly executed bunt by Kerley allowed their to be runner's on 1st and 2nd with no outs. The for whatever reason Comer decided to pull his catcher and bring in a pinch hitter. The pinch hitter struck out, and then Comer pinch hit for the DH who popped up to the 1st basemen on a called hit and run ending the game on a double play. What a way for ACHS to lose the last game of the year to a team that previously had never beat them! Question around town is, why didn't Comer have Johnson bunt to move the runner's over? And if he didn't have faith in Johnson why not use Lackey to bunt? Hopefully our Cougars will rally from this and start a 2nd long winning streak all the way to Raleigh!! Cheering for you Cougars always from a distance:):xyzthumbs

Teague went 7 innings allowing just 2 hits while striking out 9, 1 BB and 1 HBP. what a way to loose...Tough luck Calvin..better luck next time..

South Caldwell freshman Madison Bumgarner only allowed 3 hits...2 to Kerley and 1 to Hefner..looks like S.C. may have a solid pitcher coming up..

according to Lenoir News Topic the lights went out in the 7th..causing a 27 minute delay...

Great and awesome job guys in the reg. season!!!

I see the AC team of 2004 being the example for AC teams for years to come.
Next year some of you players will attend a game and some old fart in the stands will pat you on the back and tell how they remembered about last year. 5 years later one or two of you will be in the stands win AC has won 5 in a row and you'll hear a fan say how this is the best team when that same old fart will call their attention to the class of 2004 and you will chuckle. 35 years later you will go to a game when AC has just won 10 in a row and you'll hear the fans chant about the best team ever. Then you're the old fart and you'll let them know you played on the best team at AC. He He!!

Keep your chins up and play hard!!
