How would you choose All Conference Selections

In your opinion, how should a girl be picked for All Conference??? Should it be based only on stats, how much they contributed to their team or how nice they were to play against? i've heard it all, lets hear your opinion

I think there should be pre determined set number of selections for each team based on how they finish in the conference.

Stats, overall performance, leadership, attitude/sportsmanship, basically the whole package! All conference selections should be the cream!

I think " how nice they were to play against" should have a lot of weight but if this happens East Gaston will get Coach of Year andfor what girls had to go through at least 6 or 7 All Conference with probably MVP. Who wants to go to playoffs anyway:brokenh:

I agree with CC on this one. As it is now its a popularity contest between the coaches. If you are liked then you get more girls picked due to less oposition from the other coaches. Over the years I have found that to hurt the winning programs the most. Preset numbers based on conf. finish would take the politics out of it.
    Just my .02 cents

    selection

Agree with Dawgfan and will go a step further. I believe it to be "Status" then "Stats" as the way it works now. Status meaning the coach and/or the players politcal power due to being well known, lots of press time, influential, etc. Some kids can have an off season and still get in due to past performance or familiarity. Also depends on how hard the coach wants to sell the player. Dawgfan is right, there should be a more structured process in place that takes out some of the politics.

dawg, would be very interested in you defining a program like this to fit seven teams. believe that we have 15 girls on our all conference team. i personally dont believe that because you win that you're guarenteed say 4 spots, but maybe you could be limited to 4 spots for 1st, 3 for second, lets hear your ideas.

You have got to be kidding!!! You going to tell me that if a team finishes 1st in their conference the should get more. If you have a dominating pitcher and you don't need a lot of offense and win your conference why should should someone get this award that does not get a lot of balls hit to them & then does not produce a lot from the plate. There should be some type of minimum stat requirements for these rewards.

This IS NOT a popularity contest

The all-conference teams basically represent the best players AT THEIR POSITIONS in the conference (or at least should). This is not an MVP award where the player who has the best stats on a given team should be awarded all-conference. Player "A" who plays ss for a given team and leads "that" team in statistical categories may not be nearly as talented all around as player "b" who plays ss for another team and doesn't lead their perspective team in any or all offensive and defensive categories.
BTW,dont get mad at me , this is only my humble opinion and understanding of what the "All-Conference Team" should be.:twocents:
