    Give It a Break!

The All Star selection process in ALL sports , including the pros is flawed and there are always gonna be winers and criers no matter WHO gets selected. We're the grown-ups, remember?...:lalala: :imagestor

I'm sure that most every parent and kid has a sad story to tell, but the fact of the matter is that the current systems in our area are non function to the point that being all conference has no meaning. to me, thats a shame. so i started this thread seeking ideas about how to set up a fair and workable system, and i've had some great input both here and with pm's. i don't believe that any system will ever be perfect as long as someone is trying to beat it, but it has to be better than what i've witnessed. yeap, no matter what, someone is going to have their feelings hurt, a parent is gonna call and complain, but if you follow set guide lines, and keep politics to a minimum, surely you're going to select the "cream of the crop". I don't see where anyone has dubbed any girl who has made all conference, and i personally would never make anykind of statement to that effect, nor would i put up with that kind of thing.

my dd has been all conference, all state for last three years and probably this one also, we have gone to our head ad, but without an alternative program, it wont be discussed. one person i know for sure that it means nothing to, is my dd, because of the way its run. politics over performance??? dont think so.

    All have a point

Each post has a point. The fact is, they all may be right in thier given area. I know in our area. My DD plays for a team that has a won the regular season title this year, and gone to the state final four the last two years in a row. And yet they only get the minimum amount of 2-3 players
voted to all confrence, no POY and no coaching awards. We have not had
the selections announced yet for this year, BUT, I'll eat my hat if any of it
changes. When given a chance to vote, sides are taken, Sometimes
the Any Body But ____! comes in to play. I feel that is the case in our
confrence. I know all the posts have good points. I only hope that the
young ladies that are left out are inspired to play at an even higher level.

No system is "fair" that guarantees all conference slots to each team in the conference. No system is "fair" that allows coaches to not participate or trade votes. No system is "fair" that allows coaches to nominate one set of players for all conference and another for all state. No system is "fair" that includes large numbers of players in an elite status. And of course comparing all conference between conferences just doesn't work either.

    agree

agree trojan, but what if, instead of a guaranteed slot, you have a limit as to how many you can have per rating? like 6 spots for first, 5 for second, 4 for third, and three for the bottom four in a seven team conference. ??????
