How are they doing All-conference this year? Is it based only on batting averages like last year or are they going to look at all the positions? Last year, it was a joke. They did not even have all the positions covered. I hope it is more fair!!!

Each conference has their own methods of determining who to include. This is set by the coaches & AD's for the conferences. Expect Many disagreements.

On conferences that base the "All-conference" selections on stats, I've witnessed just a few too many examples of "cooking the books" this season... In one game, the home-team batter hit a weak grounder to third, he air-mailed it 30 feet over the head of the first baseman, allowing the runner to reach 2nd on the 2-base error. Score-keeper announced it as a double.

Using "Basted And Simmered Statistics" (B.A.S.S.) as a basis for All-Conference is the epitome of laziness on the part of the selectors. The reference to lying about the size of the fish that you catch is purely intentional.

    All-Conference selections.....

I don't know if other conferences do this or not, but the North Piedmont Conference gives all-conference to WAY TOO MANY players. I realize this is "for" the players, but I remember when making all-conference was a special honor too. Nowadays, way too many players get this "honor". I think it is definitely "watered-down" now when so many players make it. I would "just as soon" see only 9 players from each conference (maybe 2 pitchers) make all-conference. This would be a true all-conference team...

The coaches can submit all the names they please, but then the conference head coaches take this list and select the final 9 players, instead of "giving it" to them all...

This was a hotly debated topic last year..suffice it to say..that I hate the selection system but tip my hat to all the players selected

I have to agree with Braves ... once the votes are in, you keep your trap shut and cheer for the winners. It's not the players that are being selected ... it may end up being the same group using any other method ... it's the method that's in question.

I definitely think that they need to cover all positions. It should definitely be on batting averages. Soem players may not even play the whole season and still make all-conference by the few at bats they had. It should be the total package!!

There is an old adage about players who knock in two runs and let in 3..........

If you are going to base it just on offensive numbers, your all-conference team may not be able to beat the "sisters of the blind"....

I remember a kid being selected as an all conference for leading the conference in hitting...my question is this...he was a DH...shouldn't he have played the field?
