    sorry to bump up... but...

Per Coach "Rabbit" Fulghum, this is the way it is supposed to be...POY automatic to the roster...however the selection committee doesn't go to great lengths in finding out who these POY's are... if your HS coach or one in your conference or your regions(areas) rep. doesn't notify them, well the deserving player gets left off! Should be something in place where this just doesn't happen!

    THANK YOU FOR YOUR REPLY,

THE BASEBALL COACHES ASSOC SHOULD DO MORE TO PROMOTE THEIR SPORT, I AM A AVID BELEIVER THAT THOSE WHO MARKET THEIR PRODUCT HAVE BETTER CHANCES OF MOVING THE PRODUCT. THE VENDOR BESIDE THE ROAD SELLS MORE CANTALOPES THAN THE GARDENER WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO ASK IF HE HAS ANY FOR SALE. BASEBALL IS AT THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR IT IS FORGOTTEN AS THE SEASON END AND KIDS GO HOME. I USED THE ONE EXAMPLE OF HOW IT WAS. MAYBE THE ASSOC SHOULD APPOINT 4-5 COACHES OF EACH CLASSIFICATION TO PROMOTE THEIR SPORT, NOT JUST THEIR TEAM. AS YOU CAN SEE WITH IMPACT AND NC PREPS DOING A POLL HAS HELPED AT LEAST TO DRAW INTEREST TO THE SPORT. MOST OF THE REGIONAL NEWSPAPERS IN NC ACTUALLY DO A FAIR JOB OF POLLING FOOTBALL AND BASKETBALL/ BASEBALL MUST PROMOTE TO REMAIN AND GAIN GROUND ON THE REVENUE SPORTS. THIS PAST WEEK IN GREENSBORO THEIR WAS MORE PUB TO THE AAU SWIMMING THAN THE AMATEUR BASEBALL WORLD SERIES. JUST VENTING BUT CONCERNED.

It's High School Baseball. Your 17 or 18 years old..
You have 50 to 70 more good years ahead of you. I wouldnt dwell on the fairness of the trophies or awards you get at this level.
Wait till you have to go get it on your own then talk about fairness.
Some high school kids are 3 or 4 year starters make all conference , win championships go to the states in AAU / USSSA , Amereican Legion titles.. then walk away not to play at the next level.

Example: I had a player as a 9 year old all-star once . The same players parent did not want me to choose this player the next year in the league draft. Later on just before the draft i was notified i could draft this player, but that permission came after a few top players were going to play on my team..anyway, this player was one of the top 2 or 3 players on this team , we eventually won the league title and a majority of my team were selected as league all-stars . In the past the coach of the league champions was suppose to be the coach of this all-star team. Not this year... The rules changed mainly because i wasnt in the right circle of friends. This team went on to finish 2nd in the state championship that year. I was told as consolation i could coach the 9 year olds that were not chosen to play in a district tournament .. we went on to win that title...
But this player i am talking about went on to be an all-star every year after that and was a JV starter for 1 year and a 3 year starter the next on the varsity. Not a flashy player not a fast player not a power hitter but this player played worked extra hard just to keep up with the ones with all the natural talent . This player worked on the basics . No fancy catches , but the basic mechanics an infielder needs to be successful. I dont know what this players batting average was or how many errors he had each year but he was a team leader and the type of player any coach will always love to have on a team. This player was also a leader for 3 or 4 years on his American Legion Team. Bottom line is , this player did not win the POY awards but if there was an award for leadership , respect of the game , and just general respect to everyone around him , he should get that award.
This player could go on and play in college and i think was approached by many colleges , but instead is going to college to study and move on with his life . This is a young man who never got caught up in the "I" or the "ME" but was an ultimate team player. And to this day this young man has never shown his coach, umpire or anyone else i have ever heard any disrespect or uttered any foul remarks .
So what i'm saying .. Dont fret over trivial stuff... go out and work hard without expecting anything to be given to you. If you work hard you will earn the awards when they really count... :)
