I am sure there are many that were deserving of making it that didn't. The teams in the 3A Championship come to mind.... Eastern Wayne had two (which we all knew we be on list, and well deserved) and Lake Norman three. From Eastern Wayne, Cambric Moye and Josh Frederick come to mind (Frederick named All Area Pitcher). Lake Norman was a team full of talent as well. I am wondering if there really are people on this list that did not make All Conference..... Nevertheless Congrats to those that did get picked.

Coach 27 is right that conference POYs have been automatically members of the All-State team. But at the same time it is my understanding that the coach has to send in the nomination and let the committee know that the player was a conference POY. I am not sure about the selection process from there on. I know that players must be nominated, but as far as players are selected after POYs your guess is as good as mine. I know that it has to be a tough job to narrow down all the great players in our state, but I have never served on the committee to know how it is done. I don't envy their job at all. There will always be great players left on the outside looking in. That is what makes it such an honor to be All-State.

    ALL STATE

Conference POY are automatic. Players must be nominated by a high school coach. Coaches from all over the state meet to choose the team. Sometimes a POY is missed because there are no coaches from that conference's area at the meeting & no coaches from the conference can be reached by phone on the date of the meeting. No process is perfect, but this process is very solid, especially when coaches volunteer to drive from all over the state to meet and choose the team. If your area of the state is not represented call your local coaches and tell them to get involved with the process.

From my understanding All State is for the full year's work. Obviously winning conference championships and going to the playoffs (& doing well in the playoffs) certainly can not hurt. With that said a team can go 0-20 and have a stud player make All State as All State is an individual award.

This is not an all state playoff team, it is All-State. It is based on full season. However teams/players advancing further in playoffs may have more notoriety and that can help since the meeting is after the state championship series.

Any bias, and to be honest, as long as humans make these decisions (no jokes, please) this bias will result from normal human emotion/feelings.

The process is solid, if a coach has a player deserving of consideration, then he should nominate that player. If he as a POY, then he should make sure that name is submitted.

All State recognition is not solely based on statistical performance, though that is a tool for measurement. Certainly if a kid has an excellent reputation as a player it can play a factor because the coaches may know more about that player due to his reputation. Is it fair? That is for you to decide, but that's the way it is.

Now, to get off my soapbox...
