Well, since everyone is previewing the Prep baseball teams. What do we have to look forward to in hot summer of 2006.

I love my Caldwell 29ers, but its going to be a tough one. Alot of players that they have looked to for several years are gone. I honestly think Shelby and Cherryville both are in the same position. Its going to be strange listening to starting lineups and not hearing Russell Reid or Matt Braswell or Alex Fairweather for Caldwell or Josh Drewery and Daniel Folk for Shelby or Chris Cook and Steven Justice for Cherryville.

    Thoughts anyone?

Waiting to see the developments with the Mathews legion team. If they can't start that program, then Pineville will field a team of studs again.

DownSouth & Braves,,,, Merry Christmas to both of you. Good to see the legion topics show up once again,,, yep "bestball" (I mean baseball) :) is just around the corner.

As for Kannapolis Legion,,, we've had a nice 3-year run where we won the Area III championship both in 2003 & 2004, but unfortunately we were hit hard by "showcase ball" in 2005 in which 3 key players opted to showcase instead of return to the legion team. We also had a key 4th player in 2005 who was invited to play Cape Cod (can't blame him for that),,, nevertheless, our 2005 team still had enough talent to go to the 3rd round of the playoffs.

"Word" around Kannapolis this offseason is that ALL of our eligible players have decided to play one final legion season together before they part ways to their separate college careers. If this is true,,, Kannapolis should be pretty tough in 2006. Won't go into specific names right now,,,, but again, if they all show up, we should be ok.

P.S. To the Caldwell folks and Pineville folks,,,,, we played both of you guys in 2004 in nonleague games and you both have great legion programs. We were unable to schedule any nonleague games at all last year because one of our HS teams (NW) went to the state finals, nevertheless would like to especially get you 2 guys back on our schedule for 2006 if possible,,, contact me via PM if interested. Thanks.

I'm sure Coach Rummage at Pineville would love to schedule you guys...if he can.

I thought this thread might make you come out of hibernation:D

Intimidator,,, thanks, good to be back from hibernation. I saw your son somewhere over the fall, seems like he's still getting even taller. I wished him the best for this spring, but tell him again for me.

As for you, have you been staying out of trouble?

Rumor I've heard around the Triangle area is that several teams are close to folding if they haven't done so already. This area is really starting to turn into showcase/high school summer teams rather than Legion.

If I hear anymore I'll let you guys know, but just the word I've heard is that several teams will not be in action this summer.

    American Legion Post 50:
Last year our team did pretty well, winning the Area-II championship. And, we are only losing 1 player, Tio Mclean, but he did do a great job for us on the mound. Also, last year we didn't have William Sunderland (MSEC POY), but he will be coming back this year more than likely. We should be pretty strong, considering this will be most of our starting line-ups 3rd or 4th year starting on Senior Legion.

Kannapolis will be very strong this year. From what I hear guys are coming back and the showcase guys will be back as well. Concord has new coaches this year so maybe they can get by to winning ways in the past.
