    7/16 Fri:

    Greensboro 9
    Winston-Salem 11

    Series tied at 2-2.

This game looked like a blowout as Greensboro scored 7 runs in the first two innings. But WS came back with 6 runs in the bottom of the 2nd on a 3-run HR by Mike Hazen and a 2 out 3-run double by Nick DeRose. Charlie Gamble hit a 2-run HR in the top of the 5th inning to put Greensboro up 9-6. But WS tied it up in the bottom of the 6th as Addison Johnson's single to RF went under the RF's glove enabling two runs to score and Josh Lane's double to the LC fence drove in the third run. In the bottom of the 7th, Mike Hazen put WS in front for the first time in the game by driving in 2 runs with a single to RF. Joe Overby shut out Greensboro during the last 4 innings and even managed to strike out Charlie Gamble in the top of the 8th! (Which is quite an accomplishment since Mr. Gamble is about 16 for 18 in this series!)

There were a lot of errors by both teams tonight, and almost all of the errors led to runs being scored. 5 hit batters didn't help WS in the first couple of innings either. But the Warriors showed a lot of character by winning the game after being down 7 after 1 1/2 innings.

Last 2nd Round remaining game from Area III.....

    Saturday July 17...
    Winston-Salem(17-12) at Greensboro(22-4) (series tied 2-2)

    ------------------------------------------

KtownYankee, I noticed that you said the next round begins on Monday night; however, the schedule that I was given by a team official very clearly says that the 3rd round begins on Sunday July 18.....

    3rd Round....
    Burlington(26-6) at Kannapolis(24-8)

    Rowan County(23-15) vs. Gboro/WS winner

    3rd Round....

I just had it confirmed by an AL official that the 3rd round will definitely begin Sunday July 18. Greensboro/WS have already lost one day because of weather, so they must absolutely complete their series today; otherwise, that series winner will be whoever had an earlier 2-1 edge (which would be Gboro).

    3rd Round starts tomorrow!!!

    Sat 7/17:

    Winston-Salem - X
    Greensboro - X

Game cancelled due to deluge. Greensboro advances to third round because they lead the second round series 2-1 after 3 games - according to the Legion playoff rules.

Too bad! Greensboro is a very good team this year, only losing 5 games. But WS beat them 3 of those 5 games and really looked forward to playing them one more time. Unfortunately, until all of these Legion fields have domes, some games just won't get played. [IMG]

Good luck to Greensboro next week!

So this is for real? Greensboro is declared the winner?

I guess as a fan I'll take the win by rules but it would have been nice to win it on the field.

I was walking down my steps, keys in hand at 7:05 when the bottom fell out of the sky.

hey rjrdad - do you know who the starter was Friday night for Greensboro? I was assuming it would be Chad Baker. But I heard rumors his arm was sore since he had yet to pitch the Winston series.

any Rowan County posters making the trip to Jamestown tomorrow night? I'll be there for sure if the weather cooperates.

Greensboro would have had their hands full tonight against Winston. I was looking forward to an intense Game Five. Winston beat Greensboro 3 times this season as both teams split 3-3 including the regular season.

    On to round three...

edit to add that yes rjrdad - Charlie Gamble really has been the man for Greensboro this series. That kid has one of the best looking swings I've seen in a long time
