I agree. Both starters were pitchers tonight. Neither had his best stuff, but they both gutted it out. Maples got stronger as the night went on, and he had a huge night at the plate as well. Not sure his future college coaches would want him throwing 127 pitches, but he sure was tough once he was throwing strikes consistently.

Cudney didn't have his "A" stuff tonight. He couldn't get the first pitch fast ball over and was up in the zone a lot, but the kid worked through it and made the pitches when he had to. To me that's the mark of a good pitcher -- how does he do when he doesn't have his best stuff? And Jordan got it done against a very good hitting team. Mathis has become very effective in relief for Charlotte, with three strong performances in a row out of the bullpen.

These same two teams go at it again at Simms Park tomorrow night. I hope they give us another fine performance.

By the way, Turuda is a baseball player. The kid has had multiple hits in almost every game this summer and can play anywhere on the field..

    Hickory 16 Burke 5 7 innings

Hickory broke out the sticks with 20 hits. Ben Lilly slugged two 2-run home runs while adding a single, double and triple with 6 RBIs. Lilly also pitched a complete game for Post 48. :ylsuper:

Isaac Harrow had 3 hits to go along with 2 each for Tyler Buchanan, Matt Wharton, Justin Dixon, and Jeremy Arnold.

    Mooresville @ S. Rowan

    Mooresville 5
    S. Rowan 2

This game was scoreless for 6 innings as SR starter Jacob Cooper and Mooresville hurler Tim Johnson got out of several jams early in the game. But Mooresville got to Cooper in the top of the 7th and touched him up for 5 runs to grab the lead. SR came right back and got 2 unearned runs off Johnson to cut into the Mooresville lead. But that was all she wrote for SR as Matt Marshall went the last 2 innings for Mooresville to close it out. Defensive play was also a key factor for both squads tonight, especially for SR. This was on the heels of a game with Stanly Co. earlier in the day. The SR right fielder had several running catches at every conceivable angle you could think of throughout the game. This SR team is much better than their record indicates. Mooresville hosts Wilkes Co. on Sunday to close out the regular season.

    Kannapolis-14 over Mocksville-5

Wow!!! Dem Kannapolis boys keep hittin it tonight at home beating a very strong Mocksville team!!! The Mocksville centerfielder made 2 great catches at the fence robbing Garrett Sherrill and Eddie Boger of 3-run homeruns each or this score could've been even worse.

    WP- Blake Ketner
    LP- ???

    HR- Ryan Query (Kann)

Kannapolis remains tied for 1st place with Stanly County, both have 9-4 league records, while Mocksville drops to a tie for 3rd place with Rowan County (both at 8-5).

Post 262 overcame an early 7-0 deficit and a 75 minute storm delay to get their sixth win in their last seven games. Providence Day's James Cerbie (1-0) pitched four strong innings to finish the game and get the win. Cerbie also went 3-4 at the plate. Jordan Harris pitched three strong innings of middle relief to keep Charlotte in it and set the stage for the comeback.

Post 262 is now 8-4, 7-4 in Area 4 games.
