From what I understand, Puerto Rico was unable to field a team in the SE Regionals this year, so they placed a 2nd team from Illinois in the SE. Because of large numbers of legion teams in some states, some states get to send 2 teams to the regionals, and Illinois is one of them.

because it would make waaaaayyyyy too much sense to have a second team from one of the true Southeast states.

Hatfield,,,,, your right. I'm not sure how many states get to send 2 teams to a regionals,,, but I'm only assuming its none of the other SE states. But your right, I agree it seems they could've allowed maybe a 2nd team from the host state, in this case Florida,,,, but they didn't.

    Ill. replacing P.R.

saw this on another forum. Puerto Rico will not have a representative in the American Legion regionals this season because not enough of its teams met the proper insurance requirements to play American Legion baseball.

They will be replaced by Illinos State Champions.

The reason a team from Illinois will fill the space is because that state had the most American Legion teams of a state that did not already get two berths in the American Legion regionals. He pointed out that normally there are 51 automatic berths (50 states and Puerto Rico) and eight host teams for the eight 8-team regionals. The other five spots go to the second-place team from the states with the largest number of programs.

Re: SE Regional tidbitsReplyPuerto Rico did nothing wrong..it was about the other teams in their league. 8 teams must have accident and insurance to play by July 1st.
There were only 6 teams that had the insurance so the league only had 6 teams technically. You must have 8 to qualify for the regionals.

Hope this clears up some questions.

Please no negative comments..they will be deleted and you will face a little vacation time.

    SORRY!
